why would you want to get rid of them? where i live, east coast of Canada, small farms, fish plants and blue berry growers are providing places for migrant workers to live. its a win win situation, these jobs are usually seasonal, long hours (60 to 100 hours per week) low paying (8 to 10$ an hour) and often back breaking, a lot of the people from here won't do the work preferring to go out west to work, returning home occasionally. these migrant workers get 3 to 6 months of work and then return home, and if they need some help along the way why not give them a hand? some of the areas they come from there is no schools or hospitals, doesn't it sound like a better idea for every one to have a fare shake at the stick? if illegal immigrants are coming to your country there must be a reason. they are filling a void. isn't your duty to help the less fortunate, kind like the Indians helped the first white settlers(maybe they shouldn't have)

Illegal immigrants are now estimated between 20 and 30 million. The best way to get rid of them is to fine employer in conjunction with jail time and to stop giving illegals ANY type of benefits.

First cut off access to schools and medical care to ILLEGAL immigrants immediately.

Second issue a proclamation that after 30 days ILLEGAL immigrants have no protection under the law.

If they choose to stay after the 30 days they do so at their own peril. The citizens can choose to defend their country from these invaders

Homeland Security isn't doing a very good job, are they? The best thing is to deport them...but they didn't happen overnight...who is not doing their job...???If they can come in so can terrorists...don't focus on the illegals...focus on Washington as being sloppy. They created Homeland Security to prevent incursion...but that is also the job of the FBI...or was it the job of the Border Patrol... As for illegals, the best thing is for castration of all males so we don't have to face the problem again...

you know, i am getting sick and tired of people assuming when you say illegal immigrants you mean mexicans! all the 11 million illegals are not just mexicans. those numbers consist of all illegal immigrants. (chinese, russian, african, cuban, swiss, german, etc) if all the illegal immigration talk was about german or russian do you really think it would be an issue? of coarse not. lets be real. at least they are trying to work, unlike 'americans' who stand in longer lines getting wic, food stamps, tanf etc. -to be fair of coarse- not all 'americans' are standing in line. mexicans are some of the hardest working people you will ever meet. yes i agree that they(all immigrants) should be documented, but they are here and they are working and pay taxes and if they legitamently pay taxes than they are helping to support our govt and they should receive the same benefits that other tax payers receive(i.e. housing etc). but if they are not paying taxes then they should not receive help.

The best response is to define whats illegal . I'm sure if Americans where trying to cross the borders into Mexico they would shoot us on spot. I've been in Mexico and They have men with machine guns every where. I think the President Fox needs to quit playing games and tighten their borders. Plus we need to ship all the Mexicans back home. But if we do that whose going to build the fence along the borders. ;)

I'd say that's probably a really conservative estimate...first way to start dealing with it is by corresponding with your congressman.
Tell him/her that you're concerned by the immigration issue, and ask what ideas they've got for dealing with the issue head-on instead of just raising taxes forever...and, if they have a city council meeting on the issue, go attend. Public awareness is the biggest thing, get a dialogue going, figure out where we're going with this whole mess nationally...

Enforce immigration laws and go after the people who hire illegals. Fine the employers heavily so that they lose any profit they get from hiring illegals and if they continue to hire them, give them prison time.

Get rid of the minimum wage so that employers can hire Americans at a reasonable starting wage.
