or that the testimony he walked on water is mistaken in some way?

As with all of the other 'parables' Jesus spoke, this was just another parable. Jesus walking on water is nothing more than another allegory meaning that we should all rise above the limits of this world to reach something greater. That is why the other poor sap sank, no faith. He didn't literally sink in water, again, a metaphor; he sank into the confines of our earth-bound realities instead of lifting himself above it all because he didn't believe. Period. Nothing more, nothing less.

Ragi Omar just did a 3 part series for the BBC that looked at the context for this and other 'miracles', how the Jewish people that Jesus was preaching to would have heard and interpreted his actions and words. In this case, Ragi claims that they would have heard echoes of Joshua crossing the Jordan, symbolism that would connect Jesus with the Messiah. Omar's thesis is that Jesus was doing that intentionally. I'm not convinced, so much was added in later that, without form critical analysis (and a good library), it's really hard to tell when these bits became part of the story. But it does give some ideas as to WHY this part was included.

To answer your question literally, it's more likely that the testimony is mistaken. That's just human nature. :-)

Without any doubt the second instance is more likely. However, one of the strengths of the Biblical text is its ability to interweave the magic with objective reality. There's a point in life that goes missing when the reader wants to force a premodern text into 17th century rigid rationalism. For some reason the current postmodern debate casts some doubts upon rationalism, and of the questions has to do with the fact (still unaccounted for) that rigid rationalism cannot shed any ligth on the mysteries of the universe. Jesus walking on water is something that doesn't offend me as someone who holds a PhD degree.

The truth is that Jesus did indeed walk on water, because He is God, and God has power over all the elements. If you find that hard to believe, theen turn your life over to Christ and ask Him to reveal everything to you. You see, when you become a Born-Again-Christian, there is no doubt in your mind about what God can do. You will feel His presence, His Holy Spirit will be within you to tell you what is right and what is wrong.

Remember, He created everything and everone is a child of God. But He sent His Son Jesus Christ to become an atonement for our sins, he created the whole Universe, and remember He commanded the storms out at sea to stop, and they did. Why? because He is God Almighty, who can do all things.

However, if you are still in doubt then ask for sincere Christian help or advice, from a good Christian Church.

Well good question, and as the bible was written by man to scare, and control man kind i would say that he never walked on water. It would be nice to see the bible rewritten and take out all that man has changed then they could have all the correct Hebrew translations put in covering the time Jesus was born, they could even include his true name, but the church would not go with that would they, they hide from the truth.
have faith in God, not story books like the bible.

Well, since it's not possible to walk on water, it's obvious that the testimony was just another story.

Jesus is the son of God , and for someone who could give sight to the blind , hearing to the deaf , turn water into wine ........ walking on water is nothing impossible.

I am sure that he did walk on water .

Maybe, we too could , if we had enough faith ..... as Jesus himself said " If you have faith the size of a mustard seed , you can tell a mountain to fall into the sea , and it will get up and fall into the sea . "

Jesus was always trying to show us that as parts of God we are not limited by anything but our preconceptions. He was well aware of this so he could do these seeming miracles.

We are still limited by what we think is possible so we can not.

Religion turned the tables on Jesus and what he was trying to teach us by using these examples he tried to use to teach us about our true nature, as proof of his divinity. They say that he could do these things because he was so superior to us. This completely goes against what Jesus was trying to show us about ourselves.

If there was/is a Jesus, and he was all what the bible made him out to be, then how come he managed to get caught by the Romans, and when he was caught, why didn't his dad save him, (I'm glad he int my dad) and yes i know that it was his mate that shopped him, so he had a sh#tt# dad and a grass for a mate, all in all he was an unlucky fu##er weren't he.
