Yes I have, I know how you feel, you sometimes don't feel as though what you may do makes a difference, but it does, just remember, the beggar you give aid to may be an angel in disguise, they come in all forms...

And Jesus said, whatever you do for the least of peoples, you do for me, so by helping just one person, you are giving them some of God's love.......

God bless

Yes, I have helped. I will give them food, and let them know about a mission I volunteer at, that feeds the homeless, and provides them with help and information to get a hand up. One time, I went to give an extra pizza I had to this homeless guy that had a sign up saying he was homeless and needed food, but he told me he didn't want my damn pizza. So now, I just volunteer at the mission, and give out info when wanted.

Yes, I have. I used to work at a homeless shelter.

The one thing to remember when helping people is to give them a hand up, not a hand out. Otherwise you are only enabling them to continue on their path. Open some doors and show them the way out. Help them to learn to problem solve.. one of the most important tools they seem to lack for this life. Teaching them "life skills" is another important tool. Problem solving is one of those skills actually.

A lot of homeless people just do not know how to go about making life better for themselves and a lot of them just don't have the self esteem to even want to try. That is another thing you can try to help them with. Let them know they have the power to make ANYTHING happen for themelves, they just need to be proactive. Sitting around getting handouts wont teach them anything.

I would rather give money to buskers than to ppl asking for money because in NYC its hard to tell who is in real need and who is scamming.

There was a homeless guy who hung out on the corner near where I had a part time telemarketing job, and when I bought my bagel for breakfast I would buy an extra one for him.

I once took 2 teenagers to McDonalds for lunch too, because I figured if i gave them cash they would just buy cigarettes and I was on my way to McDonalds anyway. Once I got there I was really glad because they were very hungry.

No. Most of them are drug addicts and if you give them money they will use it for drugs, then ask for more money to use for drugs. They have welfare so they have enough money, they only want drugs.

If it's an old man who's maybe crippled, I would give if I saw he wasn't a drug addict because I would know he would use the money not on drugs but on something he needed.

If you want to help the homeless, give them some bread. See if they eat it. If they don't, you'll know they only want money for drugs and not food.

Remember the old Chinese saying: "Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day; teach a man to fish and he'll eat for the rest of his life."

Once when my parents and I were sitting in the railroad station a woman with a handbag came up to my mother and said, "Speak English?" My mother thought she needed help with the trains maybe, so she read the peice of paper the woman showed her. It said that she was from a poor country and she needed money to live. We refused to give her money, but then feeling guilty as we noticed she was pregnant, we gave her a Euro. We regretted giving it to her when we noticed that there were THREE other pregnant woman with the same handbag moving around the people and asking for money just like her.

I have often made sandwiches and bought water for the homeless in Albany, New York. I have taken in a few homeless teenagers until they were able to get work -- very short term thing.

I have given to "panhandlers", (though, I dont know if they are homeless or not).

One thing I will NOT do, is give to one that are on bridges and onramps, because these people make a killing, doing this begging! (I know in Pittsbugh, they have a few at the tunnels and they wouldnt "think" of getting a job! They make too much money!)...

I will not give to the "professionals", who make more money than I do...

I wish you well..

yes, and i have taken homeless people into my own home and gave them a place to stay when i lived in phx, az. until they found work and could get their own place.... i have often bought someone hungry a meal, or handed people money who have none.... i have even put people up in a motel for a night or two and gave them money for food.... i help out people whenever i can... sometimes it causes problems between me and my wife due to the amount of time spent on helping others less fortunate..... oh well. i refuse to be cold hearted.... there are enough of those kinds of people in the world.... and i don't care to be one of them.... thanks for asking....

get your fiends together
You can raise money, get used clothes from neighbors, blanks work well.
I can be hard for one person but a group of friends will help brink in more stuff plus it can be fun also with your friends.

It's all to you and how far you want to go with it.

Now the food thing can be tricky, find out what the laws are in your city for food making, and distributing.

good luck and have fun...
