Every time I switch on the computer I get that message, my son got rid of it for a month but it's back now.

I am using Mcafee and I hope that will keep the computer safe, as I begrudge pay money to the richest man in the world, who is board with being rich.

If your PC was running pirated Windows, you would be notified by Microsoft. You do not need to pay £92 to get a genuine copy. You can get an OEM XP disc for about £50. Buying a new disc is the only long term answer.

If you have the original XP cd then all it means is that your version of windows is not registered. There should be a cd key on either the manual (that came with XP) or on the side of the pc case. Phone microsoft if thats the case. They will help you to register it. Bear in mind though that every time you re-install windows you will need to go through that again - unless you right down the code they give you! It will not cost you anything!

as you got you system from a dealer you should have gone to him first and told him
after all he sold you the pc
you bought it in good faith
the dealer should be the one to pay or sort this out not you

He might or might not have been genuine.

Did this happen when you installed "Microsoft Genuine Advantage", or did it happen when you had a new piece of hardware installed?
