The best one that I know of is K-Lite. This can be found at http://www.filehippo.com in the right top column.
There are 3 versions of K-Lite, each for a different purpose, like one is designed for movie developers etc. Any one of them will do.

Microsoft pretty much covers most of the codecs needed...but for the ones you don't have like Divx & Xvid...this works well and is free... CodecPack - All in 1

i recomend a combination of k-lite codeck pack with ffdshow and bsplayer. I can guarantee you that you wil not going to have any problems with any video . This combination i use , and i installed it on all my friends computers , and none have problems with any tipe of video or rendering the video.....Iz za best (usses low resources, another reason to use this combination)
Another good codec pack will be ace mega codecks but i had problems with older versions and secondly it usses a lot of cpu....

just stop
download vlc.. its open source, you dont even have to install it, and has all the codecs, it wont even mess with you current settings...
