Talk to them, and find the parent.

DO NOT help with a potty accident!

Let's go in reverse. If you discover the child has had an accident. Reassure him or her that you will get some help and to stop worrying. Ask him or her for the reason for tears. If it is about the accident, proceed as above and call the customer service area and have someone come into the restroom. If the child was afraid because he or she is in there alone, check outside for a person, especially a man and expalin what is going on in the restroom. If the child thinks he or sheis lost, call for help. If you do not have a cell phone, do all of the same things through the next person that enters, or stick your head out and call the nearest person around for assistance. We all agree, never just walk away and ignore the child nor leave yourself in the position to be accused of harming the child.

Lightly tap on the door and say "I hear you crying in there, is everything ok?" Then ask if they know where their Mom or Dad is. Do not try to coax the child out of the stall, they probably feel safe there.

The bathrooms in stores are usually located close to customer service or restaurant areas, and I would go to the door (not leaving the child alone) and call out to someone on the floor to page the mother or father.

I find it really hard to believe that a parent would allow a small child to even go to the bathroom by themselves.

I still take my 8 year old boy into the womens bathroom with me.

Do not help this child change their underwear. Go get the mother and father. If you do help this child, even if it's completely innocent, you may be accused of touching the child inappropriately. Don't leave the child in there crying, take him out and make sure he recognizes the person who is trying to claim him.

Your best bet would be to step outside and look for a parent. In this day and age, unfortunately, you would be better off keeping your distance and try to get some information from the child about where his parents are or what they look like. It would be a great world if we could help out every child we see in any kind of distress but it is not.

i would try to talk to the child, and ask the very next person that came in to go and alert security of the situation. you should not leave the child alone, and you should not risk being blamed if someone has hurt the child. just keep the child talking, and let them know that help is on the way.

I would first help them in any way I could then I would find the mother and father. I couldnt bare to leave that child in the stall or drag them into back into the store to embarass them trying to find there parents.

If it is a child his parent should be there with him. If there was no parent of course I would talk to him. Get him to open the door and take him to the nearest store for them to call the people in charge of the shopping centre as there would be one pretty stressed out parent somewhere

First, I would cheer him up with a saying that don't be scare, and you will find the parents who are worried to, looking for their child. You could talk to him as a brother to you or as a son, and go look for the parents, give them their child and you never know if your rewarded.

I would talk to them to make sure it's not the parents fault hes crying. After finding out he wet himself I would assure him that it happens to everyone at one time or another and to not be embarraced. I would then get his parents or go find a shirt or something for him to wrap around himself while he went to go get his parents so no one could see his problem. Dont make a big deal out of it or it will make things worse.
