...how can you justify shunning a woman who chooses divorce over being a punching bag?
Even if you believe that women are supposed to be subservient creatures, (which is just wrong....), how come some of you think you have a right to judge a single Mom? Whatever happened to "Judge not, etc..."?
Don't bother quoting the Bible to me---I guarantee, I can match you scripture for scripture. I've studied theology enough.
I guess it's all in the interpretation. (No pun intended!)
No wonder more & more people are leaving the "church", in search of something more fulfilling. (A.K.A.----where they don't feel like the bottom of a serpent's belly!)
Back to my question...how do Fundamentalists rationalize putting other people "down"?
(LOL!I've never met a so-called "Fundamentalist" w/ one eye, or one hand...just an observation)

A little early on a Sunday for fundies to be getting on Yahoo, I think ;-)
I'm waiting till after noon (EDT) when their holier-than-thou egos ought to be all fired up enough for them to launch some old-fashioned 'Fire and Brimstone' preachin'.

No! We don't "shun" anyone, women included, or shouldn't anyway.
Most "fundamentalists" believe that God is love, that we should love our enemies, that the way we judge is the way we will be judged, that "all have sinned" including "Us fundamentalists" (the only difference is that we have been forgiven). So your premise is wrong. When we put people down we aare sinning as we are not acting in love.
If going to church makes you feel lower than a snakes' belly, change church. Church, no matter who you are, should be an uplifting experience.

I'm not a so called fundie but I think that they sometimes use Scripture in a faulty way. As do the other protestant denominations but in a more secularized , politically correct way.
This is so because of the protestant belief in "The Bible alone". ( wich is nowhere in the bible btw)
And the private interpretation of Scripture. Wich in it's logical end can come to mean that you can prove anything by biblequotations.

I don't know about Fundamentalists, but there is only one scriptural grounds for divorce.
She has a lot of avenues to take to insure her safety, and that of her children.
She can leave him if necessary and stay away until he lives up to council.
She just cannot divorce him and remain in good standing with God.
As long as she holds up her part of the marriage contract, God will deal with him on his part, (or lack of it)..

I do not believe a woman should ever be hit by a man. A woman abused has every moral right to leave her husband. Why do you think fundamentalists believe in abuse of women? That in no way brings glory to God!
I don't put other people down. Do you? I feel you are putting me down.
There are 3 reasons for divorce according to God. Adultery, Abuse, and the spouse interfering with your relationship with God.
Men are to put God first, love their wives, and lead the household, not treat their wives like door mats. If a Christian husband is not treating his wife like Christ does the Church he is in sin. Women are to respect their husbands and allow them to lead the household. We are never told to allow our selves to be abused, we are to take care of our bodies like a temple!

I don't believe they can. But then I am not sure of your definition of a fundie. There is much in scripture that can be used to support both your sited reasons but the reason we should not judge this situation is that God desires us to treat each other without partiality. I was divorced myself and came to terms with it between me and God only. My fundie friends did not except my reasoning but that was their loss. I choose to live according to Gods grace on me and I am at peace.

I have something to add here, too. I have seen people living their lives to get into heaven, following strict fundamentalist doctrine. It really made them very unhappy. They felt anything enjoyable was a sin, and they couldn't do it.
If they are unhappy, they feel everyone else should be, too.

the bible says to only divorce when there is adultery involved. But what we should do as fundamentalists is to accept them because i leave the judging to God.

what in the world are you talking about? sounds like you have some conflict with people you know personally...i'd suggest you address them personally instead of a generic group you've never met...
