why would they think of him at all?

First let me say that Jesus was not a figment of anyone’s imaginations, there is enough historical evidence to prove that he existed.
However before his name was translated to Jesus he was known as Yeshua, there of course no proof that he was the son of God, but he was called the Messiah and performed astonishing deeds.
Like everyone else the Hindus, and Sikhs have their own views, and like the church they always think they are right, people need to check their facts first, if the bible was to be rewritten today, you would find much changed, but even if we had hard evidence the Church would still deny any new proof that had come to light, hence the brainwashed millions would not believe it.
All religion is man made, no matter what, all you need is faith in God, not a man made thing.

Love & Peace

I will add having seen some of the answers that Chrismas has nothing to do with the brith of Christ, it was a Roman holiday,

I am a Hindu.According to Hindus all religions are different paths to same God.The God takes several incarnations to teach human beings forgotten values,Jesus is one of such incarnations.Jesus is much respected as a saint by Hindus. As regards teachings of Bible, there is no difference betwen the basic teachings contained in Srimad Bahgavat Gita and Bible. The life of Jesus doesnot describe what he was doing till the age of 30.Many people believe that Jesus was a disciple of saint Govinda Pada in Kashmir.Robe of Jesus ,hair etc resemble Hindu saints. He might have studied basic religion in Kashmir.Krishna the Hindu God was born in Jail. The King tried to anihilate him just like Heod did to Jesus.Krishna also grew in exile.Krisna was also killed by arrow of a hunter. The stories closely resemble.
The name Jesus might have been derived from Joshua which is a community name even now in India. At the time of birth of Jesus saints from East(India )visited the baby and gave presents. In many parts of India ,Hindus also celebrate Christmas.

Some Hindus have a personal relationship with Christ, and they keep his picture on their prayer altar. They also find a lot of striking similarities between Christ and Krishna. I found a website that details the two similarites.

A Hindu will easily tend to call Jesus another avatar of Vishnu because his coming satisfied some of the conditions specified in the Geeta. Hinduism is capable of peacefully incorporating all possible religions because of its capacity to incorporate, it can easily consume any religion even as the religions of the Dravida people are no more, other religions will merge into Hinduism.

Respect him! I don't think any truly religious person would ever talk of another religion or God in a wrong way. and yes I feel he was a special person and the people who lived with him were very lucky people!

I can tell you that Buddhists consider him a boddhisattva--a person who became enlightened but chose to reincarnate so he could teach more and lead more to enlightenment.
