Do a school project about dogs or write an essay or something.

Cite examples and good studies showing how having a pet is good for the socialization and development of a child.

Make a little remark at the end about how your parents won't let you have a dog.

Get real good marks in the project.

Show your parents this project along with your very good report card and say "Look mom and dad! See what I got for my project!"

Your dog should be forthcoming.

Show them that you are responsible enough to keep and care for one. I personally think 13 is a great age to add more responsiblility. First you research some breeds- I will name a few for you to research- next you tell your parents what you have found out about the breed you have decided on....don't beg- I learned not to do that- if you have any other pets currently make sure you care for them to show that you are ready to take on more responsiblility. If school has started already make sure you do your home work and pay attention try to stay out of trouble. In short be on your best behavior to get your paren't attention and let them know that you are ready and serious about getting a dog.

Now those dog breeds I promised I would name:
Rat terrier- comes in three sizes-toy, minature, and standard size. Don't really require much grooming or caring. Can do ok in an apartment though since you are at school durning the day it would be best to leave him out. Really entegetic. Easy to train and hardly ever bark. I have had three and all three were great while I was at school.....though I do recommend a back yard for that...

2.Toy poodles
west highland terrier
silky terrier
yorkshire terrier
there are many options for small quiet dogs.....I would have put down besenji but don't let that fool you! Even though they can't actualy bark...they can raise alot of racket!
And of couse don't rule out the local animal shelter! Which in my opinion would be your first bet because then you wouldn't have to worry about the vacinations just yet since they come vacinated!

Don't give up. Start with other pets, like fish, and work your way up. Show them you'll be responsible. Let a friend bring over a pet dog to visit.
Having a dog is not so bad as parents presume, but they can be a chore. Dogs are messy and you need to clean after them. They need a place to do their business away from your living area. It smells very bad. Dogs shed and the hair is gross, it gets everywhere.
Are you sure you want a dog?
You need to decide wheather it will be indoors or out.
The benefits of a dog are numerous. Beside the love, affection and playfulness, dogs are protective. Dogs repel varmints and burgulars. Dogs are intelligent and can be trained just about anything you want. I recommend watching Cesar Milan on the Dog Whisperer, so your dog will behave.
Take a dog training class.
You may need to substitute a dog with another pet for the mean time. OK?

Well, for one thing, there is no such breed of a dog not wanting attention while you are at school or away from home. Pets, dogs especially, are very fickle beings and are not apt to turn behaviors on and off. They require a lot of attention and respond most defiantly when their needs are not met. Be careful with what you are asking for. And are you willing to take on the responsibility of feeding, watering, walking, bathing, training, grooming and nurturing an animal. Trust me I know. I am still trying to get my seventeen year old to parent her dog.

When I was 12 I so wanted a horse but no way in hell would my parents let me so for 3 months I looked after someone elses horse and they taught me everything and I got paid after 3 months I spoke to my mum and a month later I came home from school there was a horse sitting in the paddock we lived on a farm so why dont you walk dogs for other people put a sign advertising your services at your local pet and takeaway food shop.
If you wash, walk, groom and help others look after their dog, it might make your parents reconsider as well as learning how to look after your own dog, earn some extra cash, and earn you some references when you are older to get a full time paying job.
What do you reckon? and it will keep you busy after school and on weekends.

If you want a animal that dosen't require much attention and can be indapendant then get a cat, there much better than dogs, and hey look after themselfes, but they love cuddles and are big softys, I have 3 female cats and 1 german shepard and he is a lot of work.
Goodluck whatever you decide to do.
