I have been serving for 18 years now and am currently deployed to Iraq and the chance of me being in this situation is very real. if there are war protestors at my furneral I would hope they would remain far enough away not to antagonize my family and give them the respect and peace the need. if they are respectful to my family then I say let them protest. I GAVE them that right and if that is what they want to do let 'em. Just because they are slack jawed cowards who do NOTHING to help ensure their own rights and freedoms and who EXPECT those rights, and do nothing but whine and complain backs up my beief that if it weren't for me and my Brothers and Sisters serving now they would not have those rights and could not go to sleep at night knowing they are safe. Kowing that they can go to the store and not be blown up or kidnapped tortured and beheaded. let them protest, let them do what they want. When it comes down to it, I have a clear conscience and KNOW in my HEART the I, ME, did something for EVERYONE in my country. I serve to ensure our rights and that NO ONE will take them away. if they are too cowardly to serve our nation and our people, then let them whine an ride along on our freedom, I'll gladly pay their share of the cost of freedom to make sure my daughters and their children live an a safe and free society because of my sacrifices.

Not a soldier, but I can think of a number of states and cities that "Church Group" had best not show up to protest.
Law Enforcement would enforce the law.
Creating a Public Nuisance
Disturbing the Peace
Littering by dropping blood or body parts on public property. Well that would just be some of them, but make no mistake, in most communities that "Church Group" is unwelcome.
Who will the police believe? Locals, or some out of town troublemakers? Cameras are really unreliable, especially given modern technology.
They have a woman fronting for them now, but the "minister" was the same guy who made a name for himself by protesting Matthew Shepard's funeral, saying Shepard deserved to die.
They alienated themselves from the liberals with shepard, and now with almost everyone with protesting soldier's funerals.

I am a soldier, currently serving in iraq, and have friends who have died down here. While i do understand that we are fighting to preserve the freedoms we enjoy in the united stated, i would only hope that people would care enough for the families to keep the protests away. I know you are talking about the church protesting the funerals, i feel they are ignoring common decency and should not be allowed to protest. My personal opinion is that i'd like to crack each and every one of them in the teeth, but don't feel like going to jail. They are subhuman in my opinion.

Here's my thing. You have to pay for the funeral. Basically you just rented that space that's yours for x amount of time. Anyone that doesn't belong there should be carted off to jail, at the families discretion.
There is a limit to free speech. You certainly are not allow to be yelling things out in public that would create a disturbance. Why should you be able to yell during a funeral?

I would hope that people would use the freedom that I defended responsibly, and with respect for those around them, (IE: funerals). It is a very trying, emotional and private time for the family and friends, and it seems some people's anger and disaffection with things makes them only think of themselves.
That abuse of personal freedom, is not what I served to defend, but you have to realize that people who get some thing for free, (like their personal liberties), tend not to respect their cost, and therefore do not act responsibly with it.
It is a very selfish thing to use that kind of event for a media moment. There are people that I just can't stand, but wouldn't dream of making a scene at such a tragic event in their lives.
A kid will usually take better care of a bike that he paid for himself, than one that the parents just give him. the same goes for those who have not earned any of their freedoms.

Well I totally agree with the freedom of speech (obviously cause that's what we are fighting for), but I think that what I would want....considering the feeling and for respect of my family...is that they would keep them FAR away from the ceremony and funeral. Personally I would like to shoot all of them in their F****** heads...lol Freedom of speech or not, they are disrespecting us, the people that are fighting for all of us.

i would like them shot for disgracing all that i fought for and believed in. It would be a insult to me and my family. I know thats not really freedom of speech and all.... But thats what Id want, since your asking that and not what the politically correct answer would be. And yes I am in the Service.

America is a difficult thing to defend because often you will have to allow people to throw crap at you because they have the right to do so.
If we believe in free speech then we have to believe and allow others to use it as they see fit, even when they are talking against something important to us.

Most soldiers are not opposed to anti-war protests. So long as the protest is anti-war, not anti-soldier.
