i've found several programs that i've liked such as ewido, but it requires a lisence key like many other programs...any body know any good programs taht do not need to be paid for?

There is a brilliant free scanner called AVG from GriSoft. The personal version is free, the best price point. I have detects virus better than any commercial package. Its repair tools are good, not as good as some other systems however.
Its detection and destruction tools are top notch however and prevention is better than cure.
Its best quality is its very light on your system and your internet connection. You wont even notice it running in the background. Its also easy to install and UNINSTALL (some anti virus such as Nortons are almost impossible to completly remove).
If your looking for a bussiness version AVG corp is well priced and works well on a Network.
I've used Nortons, Mcaffe, Panda (liked this one), and a few other ones. AVG is best from my personal expierence.
