Make sure you dress in a mature manner. Do not try to look cute. Do not wear pink or anything that sparkles. Talk to your hairdresser about styles that will show your age a little better. Look people in the eye when you talk to them and don't be shy. In American culture lack of eye contact can be taken as a sign of weakness and lack of maturity. As early in conversation as possible, work in details showing off your age and experience.

It is your MOTHER isn't it!? I am 29 and mine still treats me like I am 6! The only way they (I assume it is an older person) will treat you differently is if you act like an adult . If you are ACTING as an adult, then you will have to stand up for yourself and let them know that you will not tolerate this treatment any more. It is very difficult, but you will have to if you want things to change.

Be thrilled that you look younger then your age. That is a great thing. Trust me it will mean a lot when you are in your thirties and up.

A lot of it is in how you dress. Clothing gives off a lot of cues about age, as does the style of your hair.
