The Christian is likely to be convinced by his religious scriptures. The Bible prohibits the consumption of pork, in the book of Leviticus
"And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be cloven footed, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you".
"Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcass shall ye not touch, they are unclean to you."
[Leviticus 11:7-8]
Pork is also prohibited in the Bible in the book of Deuteronomy
"And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you. Ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcass."[Deuteronomy 14:8]
A similar prohibition is repeated in the Bible in the book of Isaiah chapter 65 verse 2-5.
The Qur’an prohibits the consumption of pork in no less than 4 different places. It is prohibited in 2:173, 5:3, 6:145 and 16:115.

The other non-Muslims and atheists will agree only if convinced through reason, logic and science. Eating of pork can cause no less than seventy different types of diseases. A person can have various helminthes like roundworm, pinworm, hookworm, etc. One of the most dangerous is Taenia Solium, which is in lay man’s terminology called tapeworm. It harbours in the intestine and is very long. Its ova i.e. eggs, enter the blood stream and can reach almost all the organs of the body. If it enters the brain it can cause memory loss. If it enters the heart it can cause heart attack, if it enters the eye it can cause blindness, if it enters the liver it can cause liver damage. It can damage almost all the organs of the body.
Another dangerous helminthes is Trichura Tichurasis. A common misconception about pork is that if it is cooked well, these ova die. In a research project undertaken in America, it was found that out of twenty-four people suffering from Trichura Tichurasis, twenty two had

Pork has very little muscle building material and contains excess of fat. This fat gets deposited in the vessels and can cause hypertension and heart attack. It is not surprising that over 50% of Americans suffer from hypertension.

The pig is one of the filthiest animals on earth. It lives and thrives on muck, faeces and dirt. It is the best scavenger that I know that God has produced. In the villages they don’t have modern toilets and the villagers excrete in the open air. Very often excreta is cleared by pigs.
Some may argue that in advanced countries like Australia, pigs are bred in very clean and hygienic conditions. Even in these hygienic conditions the pigs are kept together in sties. No matter how hard you try to keep them clean they are filthy by nature. They eat and enjoy their own as well as their neighbour’s excreta.
The pig is the most shameless animal on the face of the earth. It is the only animal that invites its friends to have sex with its mate. In America, most people consume pork. Many times after dance parties, they have swapping of wives; i.e. many say "you sleep with my wife and I will sleep with your wife." If you eat pigs then you behave like pigs.

Well, why do u eat pork???

2006-08-19 21:48:30 · update #4

Well, most of u just eat pork because it tastes good. I would like to point out that if you have read everything above, the meat was perfect in every way n everything but still there were diseases.

About the beef thing. Yes, when u electrucute a cow/goat...etc. there r certain germs n viruses inside. N it is not even the HUMAN way whatever any of u say. Have u ever got a slight electric shot? do u know how it feels?? if u did, u would know that electrcuting a cow isn't kind. N for the cow to be clean without viruses n stuff, u have to drain out all the blood. SCIENTIFIC FACTS. It was just my duty, as a good human, to spread what I know. It is up to you to act upon it or not.

pork may be forbidden by some religions, but it is not *forbidden* by science, despite your lengthy diatribe. I eat pork because it tastes so good.

Acts chapter 10, 11-15 KJV

11And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending upon him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:

12Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.

13And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.

14But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.

15And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

In this section God declares all animals OK to eat.

Jesus explained Himself to His disciples:
Mark 7:18-23
18 And He said to them, "Are you so lacking in understanding also? Do you not understand that whatever goes into the man from outside cannot defile him;
19 because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is eliminated?" (Thus He declared all foods clean.)
In his vision, Peter was taught about the essential cleanliness of all animals:

Acts 11:1-10
1 Now the apostles and the brethren who were throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God.
2 And when Peter came up to Jerusalem, those who were circumcised took issue with him,
3 saying, "You went to uncircumcised men and ate with them."
4 But Peter began speaking and proceeded to explain to them in orderly sequence, saying,
5 "I was in the city of Joppa praying; and in a trance I saw a vision, a certain object coming down like a great sheet lowered by four corners from the sky; and it came right down to me,
6 and when I had fixed my gaze upon it and was observing it I saw the four-footed animals of the earth and the wild beasts and the crawling creatures and the birds of the air.
7 "And I also heard a voice saying to me, 'Arise, Peter; kill and eat.'
8 "But I said, 'By no means, Lord, for nothing unholy or unclean has ever entered my mouth.'
9 "But a voice from heaven answered a second time, 'What God has cleansed, no longer consider unholy.'
10 "And this happened three times, and everything was drawn back up into the sky.

I guess that means we can eat pork!

I eat it because it tastes good!

BTW: If you eat beef, be carefull I've heard some times it can cause your brain to become like a sponge, and full of holes, just before you go completely crazy, then die!

Consider that those scriptures were addressed to cultures that did not have the capability of preserving meat the way we do now. It was also the underlying reason of having different sets of dishes and utensils for dairy products and meat products. The scriptures had a lot a practical applications that the people who received them could not have understood in practical terms because they did not have the scientific knowledge at the time. God's way of looking out for them.

I'm Jewish, so I don't eat pig, but from the scientific standpoint, eating pork every once in a while is fine. It's when every meal contains 200% of your daily requirement of cholesterol that eating ham, pork, and bacon is wrong.

Well I think it is in the bible because of those scientific facts you mention. They had no cures for some of those things.

Listen people. Pigs are fast breeders, good thing. If it was not for pigs and pork, our early cave man ancestors would have died out from starvation and moslems would not be around condemning pork. they have a lot to thank pigs for. they saved the human race and they make great hamburgers too.

Those conditions only exist if the food is not properly prepared, and for the most part, in given circumstances anything can be fatal to you, even lettuce.

I'm not of an Abrahamic faith, so I can eat pork if I want. I don't eat it because I don't like the taste of it. I will, however, eat barbecue because it is delicious! Yum!
