first you must sacrafice your first born son to you cat.
then on the third fuull moon of the year you must take it the the himalayans and seek out a man know as "niko the cat washer"
he will then give you instructions to take the cat to the highest mountain of the chain and give you directions to a spring where you must bathe your cat.
lol jk i have a Maine Coon and giving her a bath is hell
just make sure you trim its nails before you put it in the tub
of course it is best to use a certain shampoo for longhaird cats but if you really dont wanna go out and spend that kind of money something you pick up at your grocery store should be good enough. you might also wanna get one of those shower sprayer attachments to make rinsing easier.
hope this helps and good luck

I have a Persian cat. He loves to be bathed. It's important to get a kitten used to being bathed.
Everyone has a different method, but what I do is I have an old measuring cup in the tub. I hold him gently with one hand. And I pour water with the measuring cup in the other. When I do that, I not only wet and rinse his fur, my hand also becomes wet making me aware of the water temperature at all times. The water temperature should be about luke warm.
There are a lot of great shampoos out there, but I wouldn't recommend the fruity smells. I don't think pets like it.
Also, give your cat a treat after bathing him as a positive reinforcement. Also, later when he is dried, I would suggest a little cat nip. Make it a special positive day for him.
It is important to keep Persian/Himalayan fur clean and combed, because it can mat. These breeds do need to be bathed and combed. They have a hard time grooming themselves and need help. I think that my Persian cat appreciates when I groom him.

Cats are very good at keeping themselves clean. You should not have to wash her. Unless she gets fleas or something. You will probably have to comb her regularly. If you are going to insist on bathing her, get her started young. Cats rarely like water, so be prepared for some scratching and possible biting. I'm a groomer, and before we started grooming 30 plus dogs a day, we cleaned up a few outside cats. Now there are just too many dogs and they upset each other. Know what I mean? Some cats took two groomers to bath. One of us would have to put the cat in the tub. One hand behind neck and one around rump area. We would gently push the cat down in like a crouching position so it could not scratch or bite while the other did the best we could to wash it. If you do decide to bath your cat you must also get it completely dry. Now your talking fun!!!!! Ever tried to blow dry a cat???? You will have to do this because if you don't the cat will lick itself dry. Being a Himalayan licking herself dry is not an option!!! They can swallow too much hair and get much worse than a hair ball they can actually get a blockage in their intestines. If you are considering a groomer, check them out first. I have heard of some groomers taping front and hind legs together!!!!!!!!!! Pet supplies sell cat sacks. Supposidly, you put the cat in a mesh sack that ties around the neck, so they can't get away or scratch. I'm thinking getting the cat into the sack would be harder than the bath and the blow drying!!!!!!!! I think a good rule of thumb is; if it aint broke don't fix it!! Hey, they keep themselves clean, you just supply the love! Oh, yeah and a comb!!

I have a beautiful Himalayan kitty too, and he hates bath time! If you're not secure in giving him a bath, check in your phone book for your local groomers, not only can they bathe her, they can trim her up too,and remember that Himalayans are famous for those eye problems and your groomer or vet can give you an eye wash. Good luck!

Hi there...although it isn't necessary to bathe a cat as they are experts in grooming themselves some long-haired breeds such as the persian and himalayans may need them if absolutely necessary. Please keep in mind that all cats dislike water, however there are a few exceptions, but this is rare. Below are a couple weblink thats details all the steps to properly bathe a long-haired breed and the other about bathing in general.

They wash themselves. Unless he got into something really crappy or smelly, then put him in laundry tub, hold him loosely around the neck and very gently wash him from neck down. Try a gentle rain from the tap to rinse, and be careful of claws. Wrap him up in a towel and dry gently

very very carefully lol... In a sink, luke warm water, baby shampoo (tear free shampoo.) neck down in the sink, use a wash cloth to gently wash her head. Towel dry, she likely won't be happy about any of this so expect to get clawed. :)

in the bathtub in luke warm water. they sell cat shampoo at most pet stores.
only fill it about 4 inches and hold her with one hand around just below her neck, that prevents them from running and jumping out, if you hold her there you basically have complete control.
i bathe my cat about once a month, eventually she started loving it :)

Take the cat to a groomer. Ask your vet's office for a good referral.

You don't! Cats hate hate hate water. Plus they groom themselves. It should not normally be necessary to wash a cat.
If you feel that you do need to groom your cat, just brush its fur. If you think it needs more, then take it to a groomer.
