Catnip is great for cats. They love it. Most cats are not affected by it until they are mature though. With some it seems to make them more playful and funny. They will rub all over it and try to get the sent all over themselves. Others, it seems to calm down, like giving them a chill pill. My aunt used to grow it and send me bags of it. I think it was stronger than what you get in packages. See if you can find someone online that grows it. What a hoot it can be!!!!!!!

Yeah, I think it is great for them, it is so funny to watch how they act when they are exposed to it. I definitely agree about it getting them more exercise. We have these Trader Joe's scratching pads which you can sprinkle catnip on them. And WOW.....look at them come running and all fight to get on their scratching pad (we have three kitties). I had to buy more so they could all have their own. My male cat definitely gets more affected by it than the females ones, but the female ones aren't totally "innocent" in their addiction, LOL. We actually had to start storing the catnip way up in the top cupboard so he wouldn't steal the bag and rip it open to eat it all up.

Oddly enough, my wife tried to grow real catnip a couple years ago, and they didn't want anything to do with that, they only like the kind that comes from the stores (it's usually dried, more like a spice).

Catnip seriously is KITTY CRACK!!! It probably is kind of equivalent to humans getting a good buzz after a couple martinis or taking a few Xanax.

You can use it to get a fat cat to exercise. Tie a catnip mouse to a string and make cat jump for it. Use catnip for a reward. If you want the cat to stay out of one room put catnip in the room it's OK for the cat to be in.
If catnip hurts cats, there would be a lot of dead cats. Catnip grows wild where I live.

It sure never hurt my cat. I have a mouse full of catnip (not a real one) and several little pillows I made full. Periodically, he goes and hunts them up and has a good play with them. It also helps him exercise.

Good for them? Well I don't know about that, but most cats do seem to enjoy it. It seems to relax them and give them a generally pleasurable feeling. Sort of like a pot high for humans. Relaxed and mellow. I certainly don't think it hurts them. However, I would save it for a treat and not give it all the time.

I never heard that it causes them any harm. I heard on some animal tv show that you should give it to them before a stressful event (like going to the vet) to relax them. To be completely sure it's safe ask your vet. I really don't think it would be sold if it was harmful though.

It doesn't hurt them . My cat doesn't roll in it like my others used to, though-he eats it! He doesn't act any different afterwards.

kitty crack! lol.

but it is not harmful or addictive for them. if they eat it it will help cleanse their digestive track.

not all cats respond to it though, normally males are more sensitive to it while most females aren't, but it all depends on the cat, my female cat loves it.
