I think that you get the tough shrimps are overcooked, now here's the trick: all shrimps have a size number, they represent how many are in a pund, so if you have 36-40, 26-30, etc. consider them small shrimps, if oyu have 16-20, 21-25, consider them big, for the instructions below. Also if your shrimps are peeled, cut the cooking time at least in half!
Here's how to do it: Get water, salt it with sea salt preferably until it tastes like sea water. Bring it to a boil, put the shrimps in. Start your timer (don't wait until it boils again!): 2-3 mins for small shrimps, 4-5 for big ones. In the meantime, get a large pot of COLD water ready. When the timer rings, drain shrimps, drop them in the cold water (stops the cooking process, takes away excess salt) shake them a bit and drain them again. And there ya go, the perfect shrimp.

If the shrimp are tough...they are simply over cooked. Shrimp take only a few minutes to cook, and ideally they should be removed from the heat source, just before they are done, while they are still just slightly undercooked...as the rest of the cooking will be accomplished, due to retained heat. No matter what a recipe may state...I find I have to test one shrimp, by cutting it open on the thicker end, to gage doneness and determine when to remove from heat.

Very Simple - buy frozen cooked shrimp, minus the tails and heads, and that are de-viened. Then you can soak them in water for about 10 minutes, and they're ready to eat! Very tasty, very easy to prepare!

shrimps get tough only if they're overcooked. to prevent this, cook on med heat only till they turn pink and opaque and switch off the heat immediately afterwards.

Just don't overcook.

I let them cook for about a minute or so.

Here are some of my shrimp recipes (I'm an addict so I use them a lot in my recipes)
