I want people to be greedy for that warm and fuzzy feeling they get from helping someone else. Why is that a bad thing?

It is an awesome thing to follow your heart.....It is the only way to go.

They other day, 5 Hispanic men roofed our house, and they offered to do our shed at no cost, because they had extra supplies....When they were done (they did an excellent job), they left the property immaculate....Their humility and work-ethic was awe-inspiring.

The next day my husband said to me, "I really feel like I want to bless those guys." So we called the owner of the company who thought it was a great idea and we showed up at their next job site and gave them each $200.00 in cash....We made their day, but really, they made ours....

Not at all. All "selflessness" is at root selfish - and is usually brought about by the very "warm and fuzzy" feeling you describe. Even those who give their lives to save others do so because in some sense they would not be able to live with themselves if they didn't.

What you are encouraging is merely honesty.

As long as the results are the same, I don't think that those receiving the help would care too much.

I am not a fan of selfishness, as I see a lot of evil stems from it. However, if it works for you, and you're not harming anyone, then it's what you need to do.

is that how you define selfish? Selfish is when you don't realize everyone has strengths and weasknesses and think your better then everyone else. It is especially done by people who don't have a good attitude towards life. Love others as yourself, that means we are all equal (our differences balance out).

That's the way it should be, really. People just don't want to acknowledge that that is a form of selfishness. Not all selfishness is destructive--this form is, in fact, quite beneficial.
