From the words of the wise,
It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, then for a rich man to see the kingdom of God.

The scripture says that "the LOVE of money is the root of all evil". There are undoubtedly many rich people who do NOT think God/religion is a joke. But it's probably much more common for the rich to think the opposite. And that's because they LOVE money MORE than God. Or you could say that money IS their 'god', what they worship.
It seems that when people are in NEED, they call on God for help. But when that need is filled and all seems well, they FORGET God. When people forget God their hearts harden and they are blinded by their greed and pride.
That's why it's probably NOT such a good thing to be rich. It can be VERY dangerous for your eternal soul.

I don't think it's a joke. Nothing has impacted society more in the history of the world than religion.
Although you might see me being sarcastic from time to time, it's usually directed to the person, not their religion. :p
I don't know why wealthy people would make fun of religion more than anyone else.

I've read a lot of strange answers here, which leads me to pose the following questions:
We know that the Republican Party is dominated by Christians, yes? And we generally agree that many rich people are Republicans, yes? So it stands to reason that quite a few rich people are religous and Christian.
I have known quite a few rich people in my time, and they are some of the most devout people I know. They give generously to their churches of choice, and fund many charities. What is this delusion that riches somehow makes someone non-Christian?
If that were so, then Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, Jim Bakker, Billy Graham, and the many televangelists what flood thei airways with their stunning religiously-inspired ignorance are not Christians.

The majority of wealthy people, in the government at least, are a bunch of people who clawed their way to the top by cheating, and screwing over many genuinely good men, in order to gain their wealth. Maybe they're thinking "Hey, if god let me get this far without killing me off, religion must be a joke". Hey, just my opinion.

They do not think THEIR religion or THEIR concept of God is a joke. Perhaps, they just think YOUR religion and YOUR concept of God is a joke. This is not an issue of economic differences between us, but, rather an issue of fascist delusions of superiority. Not all wealthy people are fascist, though. Do YOU think that anyone's religion or concept of God is a joke, compared to your own spirituality beliefs? If so, then you are being fascist.

Its always been that way for some reason. People get so wrapped in their own money...their own education and intellect, their own inflated sense of self worth and then exclude God from their lives. He becomes a myth and then a joke.
Then they find themselves like the rich man in the Gospels...begging for the drop of water from the poor man.
