In the veterinary literature there are several case reports of gastric perforation from severe ulcers associated with the use of ibuprofen in dogs.
Less than one regular strength ibuprofen (200mg) could cause stomach ulcers in a 10lb dog, and about six could cause kidney failure.> http://www.pocoapocopoodles.com/dog_poison.html

From same site> Never give your dog ANY medications unless under the directions of veterinarian. Many medications that are used safely in humans can be deadly when used inappropriately. One extra strength acetominophen tablet (500mg) can cause severe liver damage to a 10lbs dog. One half of a regular strength naproxen (200mg) could cause stomach ulcers in the same size dog.

What do you mean by muscular pain? Dogs and cats should NEVER be given ibuprofen or other over the counter pain meds. Their livers can not metabolize them, and not only can it cause GI bleeding, but several other problems like kidney failure as well. I have seen several small dogs die with very small doses. I dont mean to scare you, but this is very serious. While asprin can sometimes be given, it promotes bleeding, which if this is something like a muscle "bruise" ( a bruise is a form of bleeding) it could make it worse. Also if your pet has had asprin in its system, than your vet cannot prescibe several of the dog pain medicines for at least 48 hours. Try alternating warm and cold packs for 5 mins each every few hours and restrict their activity to a small room or cage.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER give your pet Ibuprofen, it can kill them. As long as your Vet approves, it is safe to give a small dog baby aspirin. No Ibuprofen/Motrin or Acetaminophen/Tylenol just aspirin, pure aspirin only.

Yes. Be very careful about the dosage. Also, be sure s/he is in pain first.
