We are out of our element and the insurgents in question are willing to die for their cause, which is to get us out of their country.

While i wont reiterate what alot of people here are saying, i will add this, the US is not getting thumped as you say, the US already thumped both iraq and afghanistan and wiped out any official army in less than 100 days, and did it decisively. I think you should ask soldiers, like myself, who are in iraq/afghanistan and see what we have to say, rather than the news who puts thoughts into your tiny little brain which you spit back as your own thoughts trying to sound intelligent. Insurgents use IED's to attack us and civilians without regard, while we have to follow rules of engagement. If we didn't have to follow it, there would be no issue, or any insurgent threat left to worry about.

For the same reasons that the rag-tag army of volunteers beat the best army in the world 225 years ago. Dedication, committment, belief in cause.
By the way, that army 225 years ago was the British army and the rag-tag volunteers were the Patriots of the British colonies, later known as the United States.

I genuinely have the danger to visit oftentimes with Marines who've been to Iraq and Afghanistan interior the perfect 5 years. a number of those adult men have carried out responsibility over there 3 and four circumstances. you could oftentimes tell the type of excursions they have had depending on the ribbons they positioned on, even if the classic civilian would not recognize one from the different, except the red heart and medal of honor. the element that astounds me about those youthful adult men is their absolute want to flow back to the conflict zone. those adult men are particularly linked with this conflict, and fairly trust in what they are doing. this isn't phony bravado that i'm seeing, those are warriors who're good educated and able to get rid of as many insurgents as they could scrap up. many years back, i turned right into a member of their ranks, so they stumble on with me and that i with them. the great huge difference at present, in comparison with my time in grade, is the espirit de corps those adult men have at found in comparison to the concepts-set of my era. those adult men particularly do favor to come again, they particularly do choose somewhat of each and every insurrection they could get their fingers on, and they seem thoroughly fearless. Now, what became your question?

the answer is simple to the Muslims.first off,if victory came by virtue of your weapon superiority the U.S. would have been victorious a long time ago.if victory is determined by the best Intel the war would have been done in two months.the Muslims know that victory comes from Allah. He gives it to whom he pleases.the U.S. has spent 100's of billions of dollars.taxpayer dollars.and in 4yrs. have not yet begun to win this war.over 100,000 U.S.troops...less than 30,000 mujahideen and the entire world can see the humiliation heaped upon the best trained fighting force in the world.here's a verse from the Quran for you...[and never will Allah give the disbelievers a way over the believers].the sleeping giant has awoke.and as more of them turn to Islam as a motivator,as opposed to nationalism,communism..etc.as was done in the past, the future seems bleak at best for the west.

Hmm i can tell that you havent served. If we had the troop strenght and no R.O.E. ( Rules of Engagement) then yea. But how can you fight a war when you have to fight clean? And they hide in Mosques and places of that nature but we changed that in the battle of Fallujah. You cant use your hi tech weapons like air support or call in Artillery strikes unless you really have to. Knowing our troops, we would of raised hell in Iraq. By the way, I am an MP in the Army

Because Marines are not warriors in this case. They are not there to do what armies do best kill people. Unlike the terrorists, the U.S. army is committed to minimizing civilian casualties which ties their hands behind their backs. This situation is starting to look like Vietnam not because we are fighting a war we cannot win but because politicians will not let our soldiers on the ground win.

america's invasion of iraq was for political gains,... iraq used to be a civilized country with knowledgeable people.... but the war created chaos and suddenly everyone wants to be against the american troops over there coz they demonized their country, it is no longer safe, like it once was... these insurgents' voices are usually not heard by the leaders, therefore they seek such measures to get what they want and think deserve...

What makes you think that the USA is getting "thumped". Well, the first problem you've got is thinking. Second, Are you over there? Proberly not. Why don't you join one of the armed services and go find out for yourself. No, you proberly won't, you'll proberly sit at your computer and write stupid questions. Don't speculate what you don't know.

over confidance for one. USA don't like getting its feet wet. they are experts fighting from afar. they invaded and defeated an iraq which was anyway crippled by sanctions for a decade. bombing iraq from the air , out of the reach of the air defence is one thing. on the ground they are fighting people who want the occuppiers out of their country . the people look on the USA as just pirates robbing their country. they are willing to die for the country. while the USA and their junior partner Mr. B liar has no business being in iraq.
