Time for that age old question again. Is there a God or is relegion just a crutch for the weak willed who have no believe in themself? For if there is a God, creator or whatever, and we are taught he loves us as his children, what sort of father would allow these things to happen? And if there is a God, whose God is right anyway? So many religions, so many documetns yet so different. Or is it those that have a strong belief in the unknown should take a leap of faith unto themselves? Or could all the Gods of different cults and religion be just one God and we got it wrong...or is it God just haves a wicked sense of humour and is laughing at us

There is a creative force. The order in the universe down to the genetic patterns is proof positive there is/was a creative force. This is not all an accident. Coming to this conclusion was as simple thousands of years ago as it is now. The sun rises, the sun sets. The millions of species of all living things remains constant in their genetic makeup. All maple leafs appear the same. Genetic changes over time do occur to all species but the changes are intelligent in that the species adjusts to, let's say, an environmental challenge. No one can deny the intelligence behind our ordered universe.
A given religion evolves and is dependent upon the masses embracing it. All religions initially depended upon a Charasmatic to breathe human life blood into its roots and history provides us with their various biographies. Most, were charlatans, good actors without a good script until they happened upon the Role of a Lifetime. Many were scholars who brought to the religion an authenticity which made that specific religion stand out. Over the generations, people flocked to their religious affiliations because of how they were brought up, a human crisis in their lives that required a faith based treatment or out of fear of the unknown, e.g. Better to believe than risk damnation. And so the world's religions prospered and drew to its leadership people of all kinds and all motivations. The religious institutions are respites for the weak and the strong and a calling for others or a career with built in stability for the generic, very human, being.
There is no one identifiable God. All of the published and preached versions are based upon human models created by human beings of varying skill and motivation. But, in order for any of the "great" religions of the world to endure, it is necessary that each have its own "God."
Religious faith is merely a commitment to a series of dogmatic beliefs set forth under an umbrella label: Christian, Jew, Muslim, etc., etc. Each of the world's great religions clearly have evolved from genius and that, too, suggests a creative force begat, as they say, these philosophies as a challenge to humans to explain life, its meaning and its expectations. The challenge is eternal and no one person will get it right. Evil will always have a presence in religious institutions as will Good. It is up to the educated and enlightened - in a non-religious sense - to identify evil and expose it to the masses. It is similarly up to those same people to identify the good and praise it and empower it. The Great Evil of all time is Greed for Power, Money and Property. Because a Creative Force created life, there must logically be a price to be paid for those who embrace Evil in the larger sense, such as identified above.
And yes, the Creator does have a sense of humor. How else can we explain genius like Carol Burnett, Lucille Ball and Mary Tyler Moore, just to mention three.

PROOFS AND EVIDENCES OF THE EXISTENCE OF GOD

One of the proofs and demonstrations of the existence of God is the fact that man did not create himself: nay, his creator and designer is another than himself.

It is certain and indisputable that the creator of man is not like man because a powerless creature cannot create another being. The maker, the creator, has to possess all perfections in order that he may create.

Can the creation be perfect and the creator imperfect? Can a picture be a masterpiece and the painter imperfect in his art? For it is his art and his creation. Moreover, the picture cannot be like the painter; otherwise, the painting would have created itself. However perfect the picture may be, in comparison with the painter it is in the utmost degree of imperfection.

The contingent world is the source of imperfections: God is the origin of perfections. The imperfections of the contingent world are in themselves a proof of the perfections of God.

For example, when you look at man, you see that he is weak. This very weakness of the creature is a proof of the power of the Eternal Almighty One, because, if there were no power, weakness could not be imagined. Then the weakness of the creature is a proof of the power of God; for if there were no power, there could be no weakness; so from this weakness it becomes evident that there is power in the world. Again, in the contingent world there is poverty; then necessarily wealth exists, since poverty is apparent in the world. In the contingent world there is ignorance; necessarily knowledge exists, because ignorance is found; for if there were no knowledge, neither would there be ignorance. Ignorance is the nonexistence of knowledge, and if there were no existence, nonexistence could not be realized.

It is certain that the whole contingent world is subjected to a law and rule which it can never disobey; even man is forced to submit to death, to sleep and to other conditions -- that is to say, man in certain particulars is governed, and necessarily this state of being governed implies the existence of a governor. Because a characteristic of contingent beings is dependency, and this dependency is an essential necessity, therefore, there must be an independent being whose independence is essential.

In the same way it is understood from the man who is sick that there must be one who is in health; for if there were no health, his sickness could not be proved.

Therefore, it becomes evident that there is an Eternal Almighty One, Who is the possessor of all perfections, because unless He possessed all perfections He would be like His creation.

Throughout the world of existence it is the same; the smallest created thing proves that there is a creator. For instance, this piece of bread proves that it has a maker.

Praise be to God! the least change produced in the form of the smallest thing proves the existence of a creator: then can this great universe, which is endless, be self-created and come into existence from the action of matter and the elements? How self-evidently wrong is such a supposition!

These obvious arguments are adduced for weak souls; but if the inner perception be open, a hundred thousand clear proofs become visible. Thus, when man feels the indwelling spirit, he is in no need of arguments for its existence; but for those who are deprived of the bounty of the spirit, it is necessary to establish external arguments.

For me, faith begins with a realization that a supreme intelligence brought the universe into being and created the most complexed entity, the human being. There had to have been a plan, an intelligence far greater than any renowned scientist of this day, to have created such a universe so majestic. I see all around me the manifestations of a master designer.
Victim mentality, ah yes, people love to play the " blame game ". They like to say that everything bad that happens to them is someone else's fault. Getting injured while driving drunk, blame the hospital and the highway commission and the company that made your car. Catching Aids through drug needles or promiscuous sex, blame society for not doing enough in the fight against aids. Commit a crime that lands you in prison, blame the people around you for getting you in trouble. Blame your drinking problem on your nagging wife and on to much pressure at work. And if all else fails " Blame God ".
The blame game is just one aspect of the victim mentality. There's also the " Pity Party. Sometmes you just want to mope around and feel sorry for yourself. As long as you can picture yourself as an unfortunate victim, your pity party doesn't have to end.
Maybe you really are a victim and it wasn't brought on by yourself. The abuse you suffered, the discrimination and prejudice in society, the pain of poverty, a disease or disability, death whatever it is, you've got a right to a pity party. Your life's been ruined and there is nothing you can do about it except feel sorry for yourself.
Well I've got news for you. God doesn't want us to get stuck in the victim mentality. The Lord knows we suffer needlessly sometimes- but God won't let us make the blame game our main activity.
In Romans 8, the apostle Paul mentions all kinds of dreadful things that threatened to crush people; we're not to allow these hardships to crush us.
If we continue to blame others for hurting us, how are we ever supposed to stop feeling angry and resentful and get on with our life? If we are feeling down and depressed, how can we find joy?
It is only when we understand that God has a plan for us our view on our suffering changes for the good. Knowing Christ shows us that even the most senseless and unjust suffering can have a purpose. Jesus's suffering seemed horribly unjust and senseless, but it turned out to be the very center-piece of God's plan for the universe. If God can do that, why can't He also transform our suffering to serve His purposes? We may not always see how God can use some particular event for our good, but by faith we know that He does! We are all weak, if we are honest with ourselves. We all end up serving a God or gods. If we serve ourselves, we set ourselves up as our own god.
You can tell yourself there's no God, but you better be dead sure about that. If you're wrong, you'll be explaining to the Being who said "The fool hath said in hi heart, there is no God", why you didn't believe in Him.
BTW, believing alone is not enough, you have to have a personal relationship with Christ. He is the Way.

And God did not create religion--man did. However, the fact that many false religions say there is a God has no bearing on the real fact of existence or His power.

Yes, there is a God...

For scientific and intellectual evidence for the existence of God, see http://www.godsci.org/gs/godsci/evidence.htm

I used to be an atheist. Over a period of time however, I grew convinced of the existence of the Christian God, and ultimately committed my life to Christ (e.g., see http://www.godsci.org/gs/chri/testimony/seek.html ).

1) Christianity is for both the weak and the strong.

2) Bad things happen due to the existence of human free-will. And due to earth being bootcamp to help us develop character.

3) The Christian God is the one True God.

4) A leap of faith onto ourselves doesnt answer the ultimate questions we have about reality.

5) There is only One God. The many views of God from different religions are each partially, but not entirely correct. Jesus Christ is the highest, clearest revelation of God.

6) God does have a sense of humor, but the humor is not malicious.

Cordially,
John

Well, if you think you can save your own soul by your own power then get in line, people have been trying that for thousands of years. Faith in God is just the simple realization that I can't do this on my own and the belief that there is someone much greater than I who holds this universe together.
When you come to these understandings then you can figure out who is God and who are the imposters who just want to be.

A crotch for the weak?

Or a crutch for the weak?
