All dogs intend on not letting go when biting a toy and playing tug o war, etc. It's just that a pit bull has such a strong jaw (which is why bad people use them as fighting dogs, a yucky illegal inhumane act, and gives the beautiful bully breed a bad name!) that it can get a really good grasp and not tire easily, hense, no letting go! find out how to train them to let go, this way when the command is given, they'll obey! If you train them the right way, they can be the best dog. I love pits. I'm married to an Army Officer and bully breeds are not allowed on post because of the bad rep they have been given or else I would have adopted this georgious super sweet white Lab/Pit dominant mix months ago. Good Luck!

They will let go. They have been bred for "bite tenacity" and will be less willing to let go than other breeds. The jaws do not "lock."

I'm thinking a couple of shots of pepper spray to the nose and mouth will make the dog let go long enough to get whatever out of its mouth.

Whenever I was attacked by a dog, I offer them whatever I was carrying. If you have nothing learn to walk with a stick. Then when they attack you offer them it, don't run. If you can get into a safe yard or area do it. But if they attack you offer them whatever you carry. But don't just give it to them! Even though you are being attacked, stay calm and pull back on the object. Instigate a game with them and call for help. They usually will not let go. USUALLY

Pits have VERY strong jaws, and can hold on for a time. If you are bit go for vunerable areas to make them let go. If they are biting me, they are going down, not me! Jab them in the eyes, it you can, blind them with the jab. Ears are not as vunerable(most are cut by owners for fighting or looks), but if you can't get the eyes rip the ear off, seriously. Be vicious yourself, if you can get a leg, break it. It is cruel, but if the dog is attacking you, defend yourself! Most dogs who will attack people have been trained to, are diseased, or have done it before. If you hurt them they may be stunned, get away then.

Pepper spray works, but remember some dogs are immune. And some, after sprayed still come at you.

And you people actually believe what you`re saying . Go to some sites and find the truth if your feeble minds can handle it. If it has to be used, there is a simple instrument and correct procedure to break a dogs hold. How many asinine statements can this site put up with ?

They will let go repeatedly until they get just the right bite. Dog fights have more than one bite from each dog. If they get that perfect grip, they will clamp down and not let go without someone inserting a pole to pry them off.

No they DO NOT let go. My neighbors pit got a hold of my cat. bit her front leg off and swallowed the leg whole. As she was trying to run it got her back part clamped down and did not let go until the owner shot the dog and we broke the jaw to release what was left of my cat.

they will let go if trained properly, their jaws locking is a myth, its more like they are stubborn and won't let go.
