Well, my full answer would depend on your age & relationship status, but to be on the safe side I'll just tell you the best way to fall asleep is to keep a regular schedule as to sleep time, don't go to bed until you're tired though and DO NOT use TV, Stereo (includes IPOD) etc, just learn to relax yourself and you will have much better luck and above all DO NOT use medications - if you cannot fall asleep without them you need to determine why and fix the problem, not mask it with meds. There are other issues - do you get good exercise, proper nutrition, etc. Really to determine the best answer one would have to know more about you.

Use a fan or something else. maybe a radio. Your body has gotten use to "whitenoise" in the background and I can fully understand, I have the same problem. It is so hard for me to visit friends or family overnight and not have a tv, radio or fan to help me fall asleep.

Sleeping pills are well and good, but Benedryl (an antihystimine) should do the trick without and after-effect in the morning. Get some sleep.
