this quotation actually means that Allah does not like proud people so Imam Ali(as) preaches people to be thankful to Allah rather than be proud of the blessings He has provided us with.
Allah hates arrogance so much that it is compared to the fact that a human being is better off if he does a sin and regrets it and pledges not to do it again, Allah would be pleased with our repentence....and it is also better than arrogance in the eyes of Allah!

The actual meaning is probably lost in translation. But what the quote is saying is that Allah does not like proud n arrogant people (because whatever a person is, is because of Allah).

im still chewing on that one , very profound , one can come at it from many angles, almost shakespeare , the imam must be very confident to speak as if he knows the mind of god, he should be carefull , thats also a vanity
