Paganism is a broad term encompassing many different sects in it. Magick, or spells, is usually more associated with Wiccans but some Pagans do it as well. Magick comes from yourself and anyone can really do it if you learn how. Many different sects perform types of Magick, including those who don't believe in deities, they call it Ceremonial Magcik. To put it in terms you are familiar with it is much like a prayer, you ask for guidance and then channel your energies to work the Magick. A common analogy used by Wiccans/Pagans I know is that the Bible contains Magick as well, you just call them prayers and miracles is all, they are much the same thing. And yes, I have performed a few spells.

I do very own one Bible, the KJV. I study it as a Christian and it certainly did help me make the call to bypass away Christianity and improve right into a pagan. I say that no longer because of the fact of all of the undesirable in the Bible, yet each and all of the flaws it says approximately how understanding some thing-like a faith- is powerful. "you will comprehend the tree by skill of its fruit." The fruit of pagan religions is acceptance, love, and information. this isn't any longer debauchery and entertainment searching for. i do no longer very own a Koran or the Torah. I even have study the Koran. I additionally use Buddhist teachings, the writings of Confucius, and misc. texts pertaining to to faith, philosophy, and morality. there is a lot good that comes out of those books, and the ethical education and spiritual thought can come without needing perception in the Christian God. I even have by no skill, very almost by no skill, study a e book I be apologetic approximately analyzing. the only exception being Huck Finn by skill of Mark Twain. all and sundry can ban that e book. i do no longer care.

Christianity came out of Paganism. By pagan, you are talking about countless other beliefs. They make about as much magic as Christians make. In fact, Christians claim to make more magic and miracles than pagans.

Pagan is a broad term, reaching beyond the history of christianity. The question is so incredibly vast. Magic simplified is just a way to do something, a method of accomplishing a goal, thats it basically.

As I understand it, the "magic" is actually just like a complicated prayer ritual. It has been horribly misconstrued over the years. I have very close friends who are Pagans.

First off, Paganism is any multideistic religious system. This could include Wicca, Hinduism, Olympianism, the ancient egyptians...
As such, the answer depends on the religion.

Magick in Religions like Wicca is basically prayer. Allow me to make a comparison, A Catholic goes to the mantle where they have statues of Jesus, Mary and their favorite saint, they light a candle there and pray for a sick friend to get better. A Wiccan goes to their window sill where they have statues set up of the Goddess and the God, they light a candle and pray for their sick friend to get better.
THATS magick.
The difference is, we make a point of having a candle that is a color associated with healing and we might pray specifically to a Goddess of healing, we might burn a little incense. Lets say my friend has lung problems, I might burn some incense or herbs that are known to help clear up lungs.
You see, magick is elaborate prayer. nothing to get worked up about people.
