I recently moved and started taking my two dogs to the nearest dog park. I noticed my female dog wasn't as outgoing as usual and decided to brush her to cheer her up. I found several small ticks and proceeded to remove them. Just before I moved in, the land lord had the house and yards sprayed for bugs. I've given both dogs baths, and though I haven't found any ticks on my male, they seem to keep appearing on my female. I don't know what to do to help her. I plan on taking her to the vet next week, but is there anything I can do to help her before then? I'm worried sick.

You didn't mention what kind of dogs they are. Ticks are attracted to heat and carbon dioxide same as fleas. The only thing I can think of as to why they get on your female more than your male is that she may be shorter and lower to the ground. Or she may be older and not as active. Dogs breath out carbon dioxide just like we do. Or she just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Ticks don't just get on animals feet and crawl up. They can crawl up taller weeds and if you dog walks through the weeds they can fall onto the coat of the unsuspecting animal. I live in Oklahoma (tick central) I am also a vet tech/groomer. If you got all the ticks off the dog, you don't need to do anything before you go to the Vet, except keep them out of the park. Frontline is what works best around here, but there are several other products that are also good. No matter what you put on them, if you take them into tick infested areas, remember, the tick or flea must get on them and bite them before they will die, so you may still find an occasional pest on your dog.

You can bathe her with flea and tick shampoo, but need to get some frontline from the vet asap and use it to kill fleas and ticks.

Nothing much to worry about, except if the infestation is massive, and the vet should be able to sort something out for you. If you are able to remove them yourself check her over on an regular basis and do so.
