the unexpected is best.
have a friend help you out by setting up a picnic table in a park somewhere and take her and surprise her by walking up to a table all done up.
its not how much you spend, but how much thought you exert.
knowing that someone went to trouble over you is touching and sweet and will probably get you laid.

Make it fun and simple. Don't go fussing too much on the first date.
For example, go to an amusement park. Go on the rollercoasters, play games and eat fun foods.
You could talk and get to know eachother in line and if communication is at a lull....no problem cause your at an amusement park and there would be no awkwardness.
If your date turns out to be a dud...no problem cause your at an amusement park and you can still have fun.
If all goes well then the second date you could put a little more effort into it and it will be easier because you would be past the first meeting nervousness stage and it will go smoother.
Damn, now I have a craving for candy floss!

With a guy who I'm already friends with, who makes me laugh. With the right guy it doesn't really matter what you do, just make her laugh, and have fun.
