It is about 2am and just woke up with a bad UTI. There is what I think is a lot of blood in my urine. Can I take pain killers?

Yes you can take them I have a presciptions for pain meds and I take them when needed for uti. But you should get to your Doctor in the morning and have it checked. He will do urine sample to check and can give antibiotics if there is infection . Or tell you if there is another problem.

Tests generally include taking a urine sample:
A urinalysis commonly reveals white blood cells (WBC) or red blood cells (see also RBC - urine).
A urine culture (clean catch) or catheterized urine specimen may be performed to determine the type of bacteria in the urine and the appropriate antibiotic for treatment.
Please see the webpages for more details on Urinary Tract Infection.

Yes you can take pain killers like advil or ibuprofen. But a lot of blood in your urine is really bad you need to see a Dr. for antibiotics. I have had this infection before I know is sooo painful also you can try drinking hot chamomile tea I tried it once and it helped me to ease the pain a little. But it's sooo important to get to a Dr. because this doesn't get any better it just worsens. Sometimes we don't have a Dr. due to insurance I recommend Planned Parenthood they might be able to help just in case.
Good-Luck I hope you feel better I know is painful!!!!

if you have UTI...and you have a lot of blood in your urine...you should be in the ER or at your doctor's office...that is not good. IF you take pain killers...go ahead and take them especially if you are tired and you need sleep....but be sure you know when you took it so that you can let the ER or your doctor know about it. DON'T TAKE ibuprofen or anything that has ibuprofen....they thin your blood...and you certainly don't want that as you might feel lightheaded.

IF I were you tho....go see someone. That isn't healthy....don't drink anything red or cranberry juice...they may need to see how red it is if you have to do a specimen.

My friend had an UTI last month she had the same problem. (you should probably go to a doctor if you haven't already they'll give you something to help clear it up faster) but taking some Over the counter pain killers (ibuprofen etc.) is fine

ER time - no kidding - that could go straight UP to your kidneys and cause a blood infection throughout your entire body which could be life-threatening.

Get to the ER.....NOW. Screw the bills. I waited til 6:00 a.m. once and thought I was dying - chills and the works. it's NOT worth it. The pain was worse than childbirth. For all I know it could have been a kidney stone. GO to the ER!!!

If you can't stand it, then yes. But only tonight. Get it taken care of in the morning - get your medication. Drinking a lot of water will help with the pain too - you'll just have to pee even more.

You can, but I wouldn't recommend it. Drinking cranberry juice or anything with a lot of cranberry in it will help. But you should see a doctor if it is blood in your urine.
