Well, for an honest appraisal of your child's abilities, they should do nothing to prepare. The IQ tests and psychological evaluations they do for gifted testing don't ask questions about American History or math and science questions that they can't expect your child to have been exposed to yet, so it's not like you can actually study.

That being said, if the gifted testing and the associated changes in your child's educational choices are that important to you, you can take age-appropriate IQ tests (I mean, your child can) as practice tests. Studies have shown that if you take a lot of IQ tests, you score better on them, because you've either seen the exact questions before or you've seen the same kinds of questions and know what they're asking for. This isn't exactly cheating, because you aren't intentionally trying to get the answers to the evaluation test that will actually mean something, but it isn't exactly a representative test of your child's real-world skills, either. Your choice.

From my experience, there is no way to really prepare for gifted testing. It's mostly logic and IQ questions, not like a history or English exam.

Your kid will do just fine!
