as a past cutter I would never say you were retarded, just hurting.
The only problem is that are are so many reasons why people cut, so the way to stop needs to be focused on why you cut.
Are your cuts suicide attempts?
Do you enjoy the pain for pleasure?
Do you do it because you feel numb inside and it's the only way you feel alive?
Do you find yourself liking to watch the blood as it seeps from the cuts?
Do you do it because you like the attention it gives you?
These are all very different reasons for cutting and the ways to stop are very different too.
For me therapy and couciling didn't work, but I know it helps some.

First of all I think you need to know the cause of the problem before you find the solution.
-People say they self-injure themselves for some of these reasons: it helps alleviate the emotional pain one has by causing a greater pain, people feel numbed so when they cut that makes them "feel alive", or this one which is technically the real reason why many ppl self-injure--it is a "sense of control", because this maybe the first time they have felt a sense of control in their lives.
Many people are emotionally hurt by others and these internal wounds are harder to heal then physical ones (this is because you can't control whats inside you) , so by cutting your skin you generate physical pain only you can control.
My best advice is to see a skilled therapist, only he/she can help you learn positive coping skills through repeated sessions.

I'm in the same boat. I know you don't want to see a counselor but it is helping me. You could try another person like a pastor or something.
if you cut because of control issues or you emotions you can try the "box"
sounded weird to me at first, but now it's cool.
--basically you put everything (thoughts, emoitions, memories, worries, ect) in imagionarry boxes that you design how you need them to be. Like a really bad memory could go in a trunk with locks, or a happy thought in a vase thats open, or everything in one box...however you want. Then you can open the box and decide if and when you deal with something. And when you have whatever triggers you to cut you put it in a box and spend the time you'd be cutting designing the box to the extent you want.

Listen, if you are thinking about suicide, you need to get help from a professional. No one on this website is qualified to help you, only a psychologist or a psychiatrist is qualified to do that.
There is no generic cure-all. You need to get to the root of the problem as to why you are feeling this way. Only then will the feelings stop or diminish. Don't be afraid to ask for help from someone who can actually help you. You life depends on it.

i used to do that and i just thought "this is stupid why am i doing this" it is pointless i mean it doesnt make ur life any better only trying will make it better and it attracts ppls attentions to ur cuts and this happened to me a friend told the school physcologist and talked to me about it it was really embarassing so just dont do it and if you dont stop now there will be scars and wen ur an adult ull see those scars and just think "i was really stupid and i made nothing of my life" and pluss your kids will be like o daddy how did u get those scars then ull have to lie..so just stop doing it its pointless

cause i swear to god, if you find a true friend, and tell them that you want to stop, they'll help you
that's how i quit... determination, and a friend
and not a single shrink i promise :)

u cutt ur wrists because you're emotional right? well, whenever u get emotional, subsititute (<--can't spell) cutting ur wrisks with something else. keep a journal. whenever u feel mad, sad, angry write in your jounal. believe me, it will help some.
