Why do you ask such a question? Have you heard something that the rest of our country hasn't been told? Are you thinking that maybe we can replace the Air Force with a battalion of pogo-stick warriors?
There was a time in our history when the Army, Navy and Marines were limited to 2-dimensional warfare, Then the Navy developed submarines and they become 3-dimensional and finally the Air Force came into being as a 3-dimensional force.
Finally, with helicopters and small fighters, all branches became 3-dimensional tactical forces.
Now that we achieved military units that can engage an enemy in all directions, why would we want to eliminate a critical element?
I think you hear incorrect information.about the Air Force.

No! Where did you hear that nonsense? Our Air Force is just that, a force, it is the most powerful in the world and a huge war deterrent when other countries think they can overpower us. To get rid of it would be one of the stupidest things ever done. The Air Force could merge with the Army, as it was in WWII, but it will never be completely abolished.

yes...the department of defense is now moving toward what is known as IFC (integrated force concept). The air force will be totally absorbed into the army and marine corps. The navy will retain their air force, but will surrender 75 ships to the newly created Strategic Assault Force (SAF). The SAF will accept only the most fanatical of volunteers from the other services to create a truly firce fighting machine.

no, just getting rid of thousands of troops because they have too many in right now.
I did hear (from a few military people) that since we (air force) have been doing such a great job as cops while assisting the other military branches that they might want to get decrease the number of jobs in the AF to force more people to join other branches.
but we will always need an air force. that's how we win wars

That would be a good thing. Then we wouldn't have to stand in line so long at the airport to get a flight. I mean the air force is useless anyway exampled by the transcripts of air force pilots at 9/11

I don't believe any of the services will keep the same "look and feel" they have today - I wouldn't be surprised to see the old Army Air Corp back one day - think about it - why does each service have planes, ships and ground forces - not a lot of uniqueness in any of the services

You absolutely have to have air superiority to win any conflict, and the Air Force is the best in the world at gaining and maintaining that.

From personal knowledge, I have heard that the Air Force is downsizing and kicking people out (these people often join other branches of the military).

It became right into a smart circulate. making use of the grades of E8 and E9 is a lot greater desirable thought because of the fact people who upward thrust to the right are often the suitable qualified, no longer chosen from applicants. maximum military warrant officers have lost their expertise. in the 60s and 70s military warrant officers ought to grant senior NCOs suggestion; this isn't any longer so at present. military warrant officers are chosen from the junior NCO ranks and learn on the job. some are even people who're no longer chosen for advertising to Senior NCO (E7-E9). finding at at present's military warrant officers; the Air rigidity has completed lots greater desirable by skill of now no longer appointing warrant officers and merchandising greater enlisted to the senior grades. The rank of warrant officer desires to vanish. Having enlisted helicopter pilots may well be perfect given their constrained education (another MOSs have lots longer education and better skill standards). Helicopter pilots might desire to be enlisted in basic terms as in maximum protection rigidity centers of alternative international locations.

what? were downsizing not leaving. In a few years we will increase because they got rid of to many people. But the Navy is downsizing to. They do this every few years because they are to dumb to look ahead 5 to 10 years and see what gaps they are going to cause in the ranks.
