Pugs are amazing kid dogs! I have one myself and four children BUT I have also taught my children to respect our pets and never to be cruel, annoying or rough with them. Socializing your new puppy is also a must and having 8 children around would certainly help with that! Just be sure to supervise the children so they don't hurt the pup or mistreat him/her and you will end up with a loving, well adjusted pug and happy children! Pugs are notorious for their "I just love all people" attitude and rarely are they temperamental. They are very even tempered which is what is so endearing about them and what makes them great all around family pets! Pugs are prone to several health ailments inherent to the breed so please do a little research before making your final decision. Good luck!

They're really good dogs tempermental wise as long as you socialize them plenty as pups. I, however, advise against it because pugs are very likely to develope breathing problems and are very likely to have dislocated kneecaps, which can get expensive and is also hard emotionally. I recommend something a bit larger, around beagle size. I recommend beagles only to very experienced owners who keep them active and well trained. My current beagle is perfect around the house, but he's been through 2 levels of obedience and was handled a lot when it comes to his feet and what not. He, however, was not socialized as well as he could have been. He's really good with little kids, but he jumps on adults.
Like most situations, I would say go to the Humane Society or another local pound and adopt a mix. They tend to be better dogs and have less health problems as long as they aren't the huge dogs.
Hope that helped!

I have a pug and it's the best type of dog I've ever seen around kids. When trained correctly they are friendly, playful, loyal, happy, and certainly not dangerous. They are more likely to lick you than bite you.

i had a little pug, while I raised 23 foster children..He was the best therapy ever for these traumatized children..he love even the hard to love..always took up with the newest child, and made them feel welcome.... I always thought that he should get a Dog of the Year award for his boundless love and comfort to children.
