I have a 5 month old puppy, who has eatin my underwear, socks, pants, and night gowns. Even when I put them in a hamper she will nock it over and find something of mine or my daughters to eat. What most concerns me is that I don't see it comming out the other side.? Is it ok to give a dog Ipecac syurp, if I know she has recently eatin some cothing? She is walking around with a very large belly right now and I know it is not from her dog food.!

Thanks in advance for everything

Actually eating entire articles of clothing can be very bad for a dog... The safest home remedy to induce vomiting is hydrogen peroxide... the dosage is 1 tablespoon per 10lbs body weight and you can repeat the dosage in 10 minutes if vomiting doesn't occur... it is much safer than anything else in your house. However... if the articles of clothing are still intact, they could get stuck in your dogs esophagus on the way out (very bad) So you will want to pay very close attention to her if you do decide to use it

If she shows any signs of becoming lethargic, gets diarrhea or doesn't have a bowel movement, throws up w/o peroxide, stops eating, or any behavioral changes you should get her to a vet asap... you should probably have your vet check her out anyway because the clothing can cause a partial blockage which might not have any symptoms for days or weeks.

first of all take her to the vet to make sure what she's eating isn't blocking anything. Now. are you using things like socks and old undies or stockings as play things, because an invitation once is an invitation for a life time. If not the only way to correct this problem is be sneaky and make sure you catch her in the act. She has to first be taught that what she is doing wrong. If you find it hours later and try to punish, you'll just send her mixed signals and actually make her a fearful dog. then, when you catch her in the act, grab her gently by the tuft, take the garnment, put it under her nose and say, "bad" and only bad. Never include "no" or "dog". Dogs learn by association. If you use "no" or "dog" negatively, they'll associate to it negatively. Especially since "no" will be used in further training as a command and not punnishment. After telling her she is "bad" tap her on her nose, not hard, but hard enough to get a reaction of pulling her nose away. Never spank. That is because there is so much muscle, skin, fur and fat there that they won't feel anything and you'll literally get a blank faced dog with no physical reaction. The nose is a good place because the skin is tight over bone, and the light tap actually hurts enough that your movement is non voilent but effective. Do keep in mind that training takes time, so don't expect much for the first several times. after a while, if she keeps doing this, a simple somewhat loud but firm "bad" and a stern look with get their attention and lurk away from the "crime scene"! Once she catches on to what she is doing wrong, you can start punishing after the fact. My dog just has to look at my face and she cowers and walks away when she's done something bad. I don't even have to know. She tattles on herself! Keep it up and good luck. Just contact me if you have any other questions or help!

oooo... My rottie did something similar. He ate a sheet. A whole sheet.. But it came out the other end.. Best thing is to move the hamper and make it so its too heavy to knock over. Mine is a heavy wicker type thing. If its been a week or more and theres no signs of the "missing" items, I'd take her to the vet. Surgery may be needed depending on the size of the item and the dog. I wouldn't give the puppy any laxitives, I doubt it will move items like underware along in her system. Just everything else. If you see some of your clothing coming out "the back door", you will most likely have to help her along by pulling it out. Thats how we got the sheet out. Has she eaten a lot?? I would make the soonest vet appointment that you can. Itll be worth it for your puppy's health.

I'd say you need to get your puppy to an emergency vet clinic for a flourescope of his belly.
NO NO NO No Ipecac...it isn't for dogs. & it makes you vomit. Why would you want to make the dog vomit --- poor puppy & on top of everything else, he's got to vomit! No way. Like, do you know the 'rags' are still in his stomach? I'd say they've been passed through the intestine somewhat & that means that even if ipecac would help, it won't help that. Because everything an animal (human too) ingests WANTS to go into the INTESTINES...so that puppy is in serious medical need!

There's emergency animal hospitals in every neighborhood. Use the Yellow Pages & GO!

Neither you nor I are qualified to make that DIAGNOSIS...GET HIM TO A CLINIC....NOW What would you want someone to do if it were you and you couldn't get yourself there?

Good luck sweetie
& BEFORE you bring him home, get that VERY heavy hamper!

don't give your dog eney thing unless it says tested on animals and is safe for them to take then take your dog to the vet the large belly is most likely cause by all the clothing it has ate.then you should try keeping all cloths out of the dogs reach and put the hamper up high or in a closet and keep the door shut.

It is important for you to call your veterinarian right away. In the meantime, buy your dog a cage for training. Most pet stores carry them, and based on your puppy's size can recommend the right one for your needs. NO, this is not inhumane. You need to train your puppy to know and understand its boundaries inside your home. If you still do not like the cage training, I suggest putting your hamper in a closet with the door closed. or keeping the doors to your bedrooms/bathrooms closed during the day when you are away.

If you had a baby that craws on the ground and likes to eat poison, wouldn't you do everything in you can possibly do to get the poison out of reach. The puppy is like a baby, rather dumb. the clothes are like poison, can kill the dog, do I need to finish this thought?

Take dog to vet ASAP, just like a baby. If you don't want to take care of the dog, give it to someone who will, sorry tough love.

I would not give the dog anything, at this point. You need to call your local vet, or a small animal hospital, ASAP.
