couples these days wait for long periods of time to get married. especially if you're already living together. if you are, mentality is that you're basically doing what married couples do, the only thing missing is of course the wedding. if you're not, maybe he's waiting for the right time. he might still be saving for your future, for your wedding & stuff. although some relationships that lasts for years never make it to the altar...i don't want to scare you or anything but, 5 1/2 yrs is way too long. you practically know each other from inside out, if the time comes for you to get married, what else is there for you to discover? some couples wait until the girl gets pregnant, then they marry. we might not know your bf's reason why he's willing to wait for so long. maybe he's not ready to tie the knot yet. one advise i could give you is wait...wait for the guy to be ready in cases like this, coz girls are always ready in an instant. men tend to mature longer than women, so by the time they're ready, you can count on it, that they're mature enough to take on the responsibility as the head of the family.

so if you're willing to wait, & if you love him that much, wait some more time. give him time to mature & get his acts together. but if you think that you've waited long enough, then ask him as to until where he wants the relationship to go. you're a girl, you will know...we have those things called "intuition". trust what your instincts tell you. good luck!

If he is saying "what's the point, it's just a piece of paper" I would venture to say that he doesn't intend to ask you. You need to ask yourself some tough questions because he's made his feelings pretty clear. He's getting exactly what he wants from the relationship AND he still has his freedom. Are you willing to live with this indefinitely? Are you satisfied with the status of your relationship? Are you happy with the way things are now? Because that's the way they will stay. If not, you may need to make some tough decisions as to whether you want to remain in this relationship or not. It's actually not all about love, although it's great if that's a factor, but you will grow to resent him eventually if what you really do want is to get married. Then the love will die and you will be left with bitterness.

If he hasn't asked you by now, chances are he never will. You either need to accept that or end the relationship and move on.

You've already waited too long - that's been time enough to decide if you want a commitment. If you don't feel like he does, that it's "just a piece of paper" and want more - it may be time to move on and not waste more time.

Maybe you should try being the kind of woman he would want for a wife.

Then you can start your countdown.
