In Illinois you have 30 days to notify your insurance company of a vehicle change ...HOWEVER, if there is a loan on the new vehicle, the lender or leinholder will require you to contact your insurance company immediatly & you must provide FULL coverage. Lenders also VERIFY your coverage with your insurance company as well. Your state laws may vary. Call your insurance company with the new vehicle info within 48 hours & you should be fine.

Depends on what your policy says, some are 10 days, some are 30 days. The other thing to remember is what kind of coverage the new vehicle should have. If you had an old '90 Honda and only had liability coverage on it and you bought an '06 Honda and don't call your agent to add the vehicle, you'll have liability only on the '06 Honda and no physical damage coverage. So if your new car gets hail damage or is stolen...no coverage unless you called your insurance agent and requested to add the vehicle and asked (they should be asking you) to include "full coverage".

pretty sure it does, but of course as everyone else has said.......you really need to just call your insurance carrier. sometimes it depends on your policy. renting a car is the same way. you don't really need the insurance the rental place offers if your personal insurance covers it. always call your insurance company before going with what someone else says though.

Only if you have traded one car in for another, and then only as long as it takes to contact your agent to add the new car. If you still have the old car, the insurance ONLY covers the old one. There are cases, let's assume you are on vacation and wreck your car, or the engine blows up, so you go to the dealer and buy a new one where it might take longer to contact your agent, so some states have "until you contact your agent, or 30 days" as a clause somewhere, but it is outdated in the world of telephones, cell phones, and various ways to contact your agent.
In the unlikely event you are out of town, call your agent and give him the VIN and plate and ask him to add it.

Depending on the state and insurance company you will have several days of coverage when you are driving a car different than the one stated on the policy. Dealers may require you have coverage before leaving. One thing for sure is that if your new car is not the one listed on your policy when you leave the dealership, make sure to contact your agent ASAP to update your policy.

I BELIEVE THAT whatever type of insurance you have on your current car will be extended for 30 days to the car you just purchased.
HOWEVER, I would call my company or agent and ask them about your specific situation. It will take about 5 minutes and you can get it straight from the horses mouth.
