There are several reasons (wrong reasons) that catholics baptize infants...

One is that they believe in the doctrine of original sin. They therefore feel that a baby needs to have his sins washed away (at least the catholic church never departed from the doctrine that baptism is for forgiveness of sins). The idea that we are born with sin, however, stands directly opposed to Romans 7:9.

Another is that they feel that baptism is the New Testament equivalent of circumcision (which, in many ways, it is). They therefore feel that it should be done to infants, just as circumcision is. While this is not the case, the parallel still exists. Circumcision is done at the beginning of a Jew's life. Baptism is done at the beginning of a Christian's life (I too call it being born again).

The last reason the Catholics baptize infants is because it has been so ordained by the catholic church. Catholics believe that on all spiritual matters the Pope is infallible. Actually, I should clarify. The official teaching of the Catholic church is that in regards to all spiritual matters the Pope is infallible. Less and less Catholics actually believe that (or even know that it is the official doctrine of their church). Admittedly, it is pretty hard to believe that when one Pope makes an "infallible" decision, and centuries later another Pope makes the "infallible" decision that the earlier decision was wrong!

I did not know that the Catholic church ever put people to death for not accepting their infant baptism and being re-baptized. Could you give me your source on that so I can quote it later?

One more note...

I can see that you know your Bible, brother, but I do not see it written on your heart. We should not hate the Catholic church, but love them, just as Christ does. While we should urge them to read their Bibles, we should not beat them over the head with one. It is very difficult, my friend, to get someone in the water when you have them pinned against the wall.

God bless!

Every human is born with the stain of original sin, and dedicated to Satan.

Baptism dedicates the child to God, and removes original sin, allowing the infant to become a temple of the holy spirit and an adopted child of God.

If anything happens to the child before the age of reason, the baptized child goes straight to heaven.

Without benefit of baptism, no one knows what really happens.

The child will have two more opportunities to personally declare his faith and officially accept Jesus Christ:

At the age of seven or eight Catholics receive Jesus Christ in the holy Eucharist for the first time.

At the age of twelve or thirteen, Catholics receive the sacrament of Confirmation, where the profession of faith made on their behalf when they were little, becomes their own.

Those Christians who follow late faith traditions and look to the Bible alone for guidance, often misunderstand the divine truths of the church which Jesus personally established.

The Catholic faith is a law unto itself. At the Council of Nicaea in 325 A.D., the Catholic church fathers invented Christianity as we know it, so why shouldn't the Catholic leaders continue the tradition of interpreting the mythology they invented?

Martin Luther questioned the authority of the pope and Catholic Church to interpret the myths that they invented. He petitioned for the right to reinterpret these myths in his own way, and created his own religion based on the fake stories cobbled into a religion by the Catholic Church. I don't know why he didn't just go all the way and pull the curtain off the whole sham and state that the stories themselves were fakes designed to keep people gullible and in line, but he had his angle too; we now have a little subreligion called Lutheranism and him to thank for it. His success in cornering a little bit of the Church's action by reinterpreting the fake stories in his own way grew to be so popular that we now have hundreds (thousands) of little Christian subreligions and individual interpretations too.

Your analysis seems to fall into the category of individual interpretations of these mythical tales. The fact is that baptizing the baby doesn't hurt it, getting some godparents may actually help if the parents die in a car crash or something, and sometimes kids get savings bonds or other cool presents when they get baptized as infants. They can choose to ignore the whole ball of wax later a lot more easily, too. Adult baptism, on the other hand, involves chasing people down to inculcate them with religious tenets and force them into service to the mythology. This is bad because it makes them gullible and easilly manipulated. If you positively have to be baptized, I think the baby version is the least harmful.

It makes people feel better when their child was baptized before they sinned. I personally feel it does not matter when you are baptized. We believe that we are baptized when we are ready but truly we are baptized when we finally open our hearts and let the Holy Spirit in to guide our lives. So, I do believe that we need to make the decision to be baptized by immersion as Christ said but I think that we also must be even more joyous over the baptism of the Holy SPirit when it takes place in our lives. So, in conclusion why not baptize infants. Whatever floats your boat I guess because, the true baptism comes when you accept the full teachings of the Christian faith.

It's an insurance policy.

What's the harm in it.

Many Christians believe you have to grow up and make your faith official at a later date by informed free will.

What's wrong with baptism. The child don't know which end is up yet, so there is no free will there. It's an insurance policy, like vaicinations!

Your 200% correct.

BUT.

Catholics have put nobody too death. The "person" may have committed a self inflicted sac religious suicide. The "person" did it, not a group. Every person has the same resposibility to seek Truth and find it. There will be NO excuses.

I agree, my children were not baptized as infants, they will have to accept Christ on their own and choose it for themselves. Although I don't see the harm in baptizing an infant, I don't see any good in it either. Many "religious" people don't read the bible. It is a major failing in many churches that they don't teach the bible, they teach on feelings or traditions that have no base in scripture.

"Jesus wasn't baptized by skill of John till he became into in his 30s." Worst. Argument. Ever. Do you think toddler Jesus might desire to have instructed his mom and father to Baptize him previously he even talked? you have an incorrect thought of what Baptism is and what the Bible is. first of all, Baptism is to eliminate the stain of unique Sin, to start up up us into the physique of Christ. there is not any reason to attend to grant your newborn this grace and, in certainty, it ought to additionally be perilous to deprive him of it. Paul additionally makes it painfully sparkling that Baptism is the recent circumcision in 2 col, did the Jews wait till their infants have been adults to circumcise them? No. there is not any reason to have self belief you % to attend till adulthood. additionally, the Catholic Church *compiled* the Bible. She knows it the suitable. She additionally compiled it understanding that it would not in any respect be the top-all source of Christianity. inspite of each little thing, Christianity flourished for 3 hundred years without the Bible. even though it somewhat is truthfully substantial, this isn't any longer honestly the source, the Church is. Jesus based the Church, he did no longer write the Bible. "because of the fact Catholicism in basic terms would not seem to experience with my values and how I interrupt my ideals." experience your values? you will possibly desire to be finding for the certainty, no longer attempting to make God in advantageous condition interior of your ideals. “enable the little teenagers come to me, and don't forestall them, for the dominion of heaven belongs to which contain those.” Matt 19

I believe it is not necessary until the age of accountability around 8 years of age. Since many churches practice infant baptism, I assume it gives the parents confidence that their child is redeemed. In my church we give infants a blessing.

no, i understand what you think, but in many religions baptizing a bab is a sign of giving the baby to the lord. not a sign of salvation. i know catholics, and episcopals who both have told me this. to baptize a bab as a sign of giing him/her to the lord is not a sin, and should not be condemed by those whoont know what they are talking about. the catholic church never sent ANY ONE to hell and you should not spread such lies.
