Sure, when they brought the US Government to court for the warrantless wiretapping program. Then they were standing up for every American who thinks the Constitution is a worthwhile document. Unless you think the Constitution is crap, you should support the ACLU.

The ACLU is defending a man in Iowa who had license plates on his Corvair that read "F NADER." The State of Iowa decided to recall those plates, and the ACLU is defending his free speech rights.

The ACLU is a double edged sword; they do manage to keep a fair eye legally on the government.

However, they'res times when they're caught between a rock and a hard place- trying to keep both sides happy.

The ACLU will NOT accept any lawsuits that involve 15 or less people- they essentially will only do class action suits that merit the general interests of the people

Here's a good example. In Hawaii, a bunch of peaceable protesters were arrested for expressing their opinions.

People who are anti-ACLU probably watch too much Fox News and are really anti-Constitution (when it defends other people). The Bill of Rights has to protect ALL citizens, even total a**holes, or it's meaningless.

You know, it's like that saying: I totally disagree with what you're saying, but I would defend with my life your right to say it. That's what the ACLU is all about. It's one of the most patriotic and most deeply American of any organization in the country.

Check their website. Look at the thousands of cases they've taken.

And if you want a current case, how about the professors and scholars who filed the lawsuit against Bush's illegal wiretapping program. Or the dozens of lawsuits against the phone companies for violation of the Stored Communications Act. Or American citizens who are subject to racial profiling. Or the christian students who were denied equal access to school facilities.

The ACLU has taken hundreds of cases for people who never committed any crime, and were never charged with any crime.

As to "decent" person, I think anyone who is follow the law would count, though you may disagree.

Depends on whether you think Rush Limbaugh is a "decent person."

Is he a criminal though? He apparently was charged and "agreed to a deal."

They may acutally have accomplished that in the past, but recently, I have heard nothing good about the ACLU.... it does its best to be anti-America...

They have some SICKOS in that org. who want to protect illegal aliens and Islamo-facists.
