answer a question about Spanish language?
The so-called translation these people give you is pure nonsense. They just use a computer translation and throw it here. How would the person who is asking know which answer is correct? Are these people playing games and they just don't care if the other person gets a real answer to his/her question?

Because people think that an online translator is good enough. It's really annoying because the answers usually don't make sense. I often read translations into French (I'm French), and I'm often "appalled" at the results! It's annoying for the person who needs the translation because he/she has to figure out which one is the right answer!

Some people who use this anwser thing as a way to compete and they dont care if they give the person the right information, they just care if they get the most points. I think its really ridiculous, because there are people on here who ask really important questions and if they get the wrong awnser, they won't know what to do. So yeah I agree with you.

For the points. Its sad, but true.

If you have a **real** translation, its useful to the asker if you can use the word in a couple of different sentences, and be verbose about any possibly different meanings of the word. If there are regional differences in interpretation - e.g. Latin American Spanish verus Castillian - it helps to include these, too.

A lot of extra effort, but it will enhance your cred, and be very helpful for the poor folx who ask.

They think that the translations are correct but more often than not they are wrong because each word is translated literally instead of translating the idea or meaning of the sentence. Adios

Well, you have answered your own questions.
The only thing I could add is that, besides all of the above, by sheer vanity, pride and self esteem, they think that they can give a valid answer. They are too ignorant to realize that they are doing something foolish, absurd, and ridiculous
