two possible reasons...
1.) they are going in a circle... but as u stated in the question that they are going in a straight row.... it should possibly mean the second reason.
2.) the ant is lying. (she is on drugs...poor thing)

"i" can see ant 2 and and 3 in front of me
"i" can see ant 5 and and 6 behind me
