Most Mexicans are descendents of Native American Indians and Europeans (the Mestizos) and pure blood Native Americans. There are however smaller portions of whites, blacks, east indians, arabs, and east asians in Mexico as well.

Most people would call the Mestizo or Indian a Mexican since they make up the majority of the population, just as most people would call a white person from the USA an American and consider anyone WHITE looking from North America as American.
Most of the time when we hear the word American we think of Caucasians and not Natives, blacks or Asians.

In reality, no, Mexican is not a race but can be considered a ethnicity if you are to assume that Mexican means a Mestizo culture which most Mexican Americans are. If the US counted these people as Native Americans by the 1/4 blood typical measurment(or was it 1/8) then most Mexicans here would all be Native American Indians and would increase the Indian percentage here in the US greatly.

To be more technical, most Mexicans, central and south Americans are of mostly Native American blood and could be easily classified as Mongoloids or proto-mongoloids.

You are right it is not a race- it is a nationality. Race and Nationality are two separate classes according to fair housing and other anti-doscrimination laws, both are protected classes.

Anybody who is in the country illegally is a criminal no matter what their intentions are. It is always wrong to rob a bank- even when you need the money for medical bills. It is wrong to come to this country illegally. I have nothing against LEGAL immigration- that is what this country is all about.

Also lets stop with all the stupid titles already. If you are here legally and have citizenship then you are American- no matter where you or your ancestors are from- you are American. If you are here legally and not a citizen then you are a Resident. If you are here Illegally then you are a Criminal. Those are the only three titles we need everything else just serves to divide the population.

"Mexican" Is a nationality no longer a race so this is stressful to assert. it may well be like asserting "what race are people seen". There are very almost as many thoughts as there are races. the widespread public might probably be Caucasian aka 'white'. Mexican is in fact a nationality, not a race. What people consider them is either a mark of their ignorance or their understanding of rudimentary 7th grade vocabulary words. Too funny. When my kids were born, my husband and I had to check Caucasian, even though my husband is Mexican\Native American mix. Central\South Americans are considered caucasion according to US government standards. Look it up.
