our twins have been at swim less since they were 6 months old. They are not under water alot as it takes alot out of them but you count to 3, blow in their face (so they learn to take a deep breath) then you push them underneath to the swim teacher. It teaches them not to be affraid of the water and also breathing techniques. Our kids love it.

I've heard of swim lessons for infants, but not the sink or swim type. The babies seem to take to it naturally. The idea is to "drown-proof" them by teaching them to float naturally. Seems like a good idea, but I wouldn't trust my baby's life with it.
The sink or swim method is cruel and should be punished by law.

maximum mammals can swim yet many great primates won't be able to. Gorillas and orangutans won't be able to swim and could on the prompt sink in water. I genuinely have heard that maximum chimpanzees won't be able to swim both.Giraffes also won't be able to swim and maximum species of Armadillos won't be able to swim both. I genuinely have also heard that even if hippos spend maximum of their existence interior the water they couldn't genuinely swim or opt for the flow yet instead stroll, stand and hop off the bottom.

I have heard of it but would never allow my kids to go through it. Why would anyone be in such a hurry plus wouldn't that cause the babies to have some sort of phobia? even if it was slim chance (I have no clue) I would not risk it. I waited till they where about 19months so they can enjoy swimming. But that just me.

It's not that it's like you just leave them there and wait to see if they drown. They're given the chance to swim on their own and if they go under at all, they're scooped back up to try again. Teachers and parents are alert enough to keep anything from happening.

I've heard about this. I mean it doesn't seem like it would be safe but animals including humans have the ability to 'learn' to swim naturally. With trained professionals I assume it would be pretty safe.

It might work...but would you really feel comfortable risking your child's life for something unnecessary that "might" work? Why on earth would a 6 month old need to know how to swim anyway?

Swimming is a natural erge. Yes, you should do it.
Not to be mean about it but they are like dogs or cats..drop them in the water and they automatically know how to paddle. Its best to teach them as early as possible.

My husbands mother did this with him and I think it is a good idea. My mother in law said that the babies will hold their breath shortly if they go under. It really gets your kid to love water and not be affraid of it.

Yes. My neice took them at that age. they have a natural ability and are not afraid at all. They only let them go after the mother has held them stretched out on their back and stomach. When they let them go the mom and the teacher are right there.
