I have a great idea for the illegal immigration problem. This is something along the idea of the Maricopa County Sherrif in Arizona. We build several prisons along the border where these illegals are entering, and as soon as they jump the fences they are tresspassing on a State Prison, a Misdameaner punishable by 1 year in jail and a $1000 fine. Then after they have served their one year in jail you deport them back over the fence. Also you can use the inmates and subcontract them out for work to be done in the city or State. That way it makes them pay for their one year stay. Well let me know what you think

Instead of thinking of better ways of punishing the illegal immigrants, why not make it cost them to come here - it wouldn't be a free ride. Make it so they are NOT eligible for any of the government programs that benefit citizens of this country. They can't use our schools, use our welfare system, use any sort of medical assistance. . . They would either have to do it legally or not come here. Suddenly things don't look so appealing if there is no safety net to catch them.
By the way: Mike - Here in Wisconsin, there are no illegal immigrants harvesting the food, milking the cows, etc. So I really don't think you would starve. If there weren't illegal immigrants working in the fields, I have a feeling that others would do it. Up here, the farmers have their kids, families, and hire people to help work on the farm. I am sure that any other farm could do the same. Americans will work in the fields, too. And I am sure that the farmers have kids - what better job for them?? Allowing them to sit on their butts isn't the answer.

I wonder if we made the punishment for illegally crossing the border death if they would still come over...? I'm serious, I am not saying that this should be the case but if it were would they still risk it?
Your idea is a good one I guess but the thing seems to be that they don't think they will get caught or that we can do anything to them other than give them a gentle shove back across the border. Maybe we should run electric fence along the border, usually works for cows...

It would be cheaper to put those who employ illegal aliens, in prison for FIVE years and levy a huge fine on them to boot.
And for illegals who are deported, if caught re-entering the USA, make the death sentence mandatory.

If we are going to discourage them, let's discourage them for real.
On second thought, prison in the U.S. is still a better life.
