Excellent question and I totally agree with you. Religion is really just evil in disguise.

Religion is responsible for the majority of wars, conflict and murder of innocent life since humanity began. There is considerable evidence to classify religion as evil, and talk of religion (Gods etc) should be banned. Because the records prove over and over again throughout humanity that religion is clearly responsible for crimes against humanity, taking part in any religious activity should also be outlawed and made a criminal offence.

The world would be a much happier and peaceful place if religion ceased to exist. Although there are some decent religious believers and preachers, they are unwittingly spreading evil around our world, and that they should simply keep their beliefs and thoughts to themselves in the best interests of humanity, or suffer the consequences for their actions.

People should consider that the world would be like Heaven if religion ceased to exist, but all the believers and preachers have turned the planet into Hell.

In biblical times, there was no religion at that time. Men are separated between believers in God and non believers(Gentiles), yet we read reports of murder, betrayal and wars.

Now, we have plenty of religious sects, yet we still see murder, betrayals, wars and all sorts of evil. All these chaos can never be traced on religion. As far as I am concerned as a member of a religion, my motive in believing is to attain eternal life and this can never be attained by these evils. Maybe my thoughts are shared by all persons beleiving in God.

Why then these things still happen? It is because all the Godliness that we have when we we're created(Gen 1:27; 5:1) has already been replaced with evil things. The world seem to be transforming into hell everyday, and it becomes more urgent for us, believers, to work hard and pray even harder to turn the tide towards heavenly things and let our GOD be re-introduced to all people in this planet.

dhammaisfree,I think God will do away wth religions when they have served their purpose, they have been a ladder for spiritual growth. One must understand that life is about spiritual growth not riding off into the sunset, living happily ever after. Jesus said he came to bring emnity between father/son mother/daughter,not to bring peace and goodwill. Strife is where we grow spiritually.

If we were to forcibly abolish religions it would only create further turmoil as people rebel against their freedom to practice religion being taken away.

I think education and the promotion of tolerance/humanism is a more realistic approach to relieving the problems associated with violent religious people.

No. because if it's not religion it would be greed that would cause people to fight, or lust for whatever. It would be power, that would cause people to fight, some would fight because they're insecure and want to feel powerful (most bullies fit this category) and some would fight just because there would be NO MORAL PROHIBITION not to.
Humam beings can be manipulative, selfish and downright nasty to each other and usually because they can't get what they want when they want it and most wars are fought for that reason, under the guise of religion.

In all honesty, I think it would be. There's nothing wrong with having your own personal faith and beliefs, but religion as a whole for the masses has done more harm than good. Its had thousands of years to get it's act together to unit people and create peace, but so far has been unsuccessful.

No ,It would be worse off because a lot of people who believe in God would be forced to conform the the ways of the world.Forced to hide what they believe in just as they did many years ago.Sin would run rampid and everyone who did not like it or conform to it would be targeted for abuse or death. What needs to be abolished is sin

Well not something along the lines of "STOP BELIEVING IN RELIGION OR ELSE!", but if we simply stopped teaching religion to our children and didn't change anything else then the world would indeed be a better place.

Stop and think about what has happened in schools since prayer was removed--violence. Then stop and consider how quickly America has lost its respect since deciding we were no longer 'One Nation Under God.' More violence. I could make comparisons like that for an hour but it comes down to one old sayin' --

No God--no Peace.

Secular Humanism is the way to go. Where EVERYONE in the world will benefit from discoveries made in science. Where there are no borders and no war, no disease and no hunger. Where religion will no longer inhibit the human species from exploring it's true origins and possible future.
