Let me second the opinion of using Petfinder.com. I work with a company that supports them, & they are GREAT. They take virtually all animals, regardless of condition or special needs, & they use the foster parent system.
Go to their website & check them out. I wish your friends kitty lots of luck. Feline leukemia is a sad disease to watch, but there is no reason that the little kitty could have a good life until the symptoms kick in later.
I wish you & the little cat all the best in the world!

Contact www. bestfriends.org. They are the largest animal sanctuary in the US. Call them if necessary to see if there is a place for this kitten.
They have over 30 cats there with the leukemia and I am sure they will try to help you find some place for the kitten if it is at all possible.
Feline leukemia is not that highly contagious. There are many people who have both positive and negative cats in their homes. There must also be a Yahoo group for people dealing with this health problem. Just do a search by going to Yahoo groups.com

If she goes through Petfinder.com and finds some local rescues that way, they should be able to tell her what to do. One or more may offer to list the kitten under their shelter's name if your friend agrees to foster the kitten. Shelters aren't going to have anything more solitary, and certainly not as spacious as a room. Just have her make sure to spend some good quality time playing with the kitten until the little one can be adopted.

All the humane societies around here kill cats with feline lukemia.
There is a mini-plague of it here, and only "inside" cats have any chance at all in making it disease-free. You and your friend are going to have a hard time finding it a home, unless you can find someone who really cares and will keep it in the house at all times.

I don't know where you live, so cannot be sure they are available in your area or if they will for sure accept a kitten with a health problem such as this poor kitty has, but "Cat Rescue" has an excellent record. Your friend may want to see if there is one in your/her area. All the best.

There is no cure for feline leukemia. It is also highly contagious. Rescuse groups will not take them.
The kinder thing to do in this case is to have the cat put down rather than have it suffer.

I live in Texas. Here, at least 50% of animals taken into shelters are put to sleep. I can't imagine being able to find one that will keep her without putting it down. I would suggest making calls to all of your surround area shelters. Do not put an ad in the paper. People will take animals to feed to their snakes, or to do horrible things to. Make sure you know it's someone with good intentions.Good Luck.

Leukemia is not contagious.. My nieghbors cats of 1.5 years just died of it yesterday and he had other kitties in his house and no one else has it.
Most rescues will just put the cat down, it would be cruel to make it suffer because the pain is going to be terrible and eventually they starve and then poison to death from not being able to eliminate waste properly. Poor girl, I feel for her... we just watched the death process and it is heartbreaking and he was in a ton of pain, the owner needs to do the right thing and put her down.... she will suffer so badly. Sorry.
