See, when i was 12(oh, about TWENTY years ago), I sure as hell didn't know any girls that did that. (Dang, I STILL don't know many).
It's a sad world we live in. I have a son who will be 11 in a couple months, and another who is 9. And I try really hard to raise them (along with my ex-wife) the best that I can. But sometimes I wonder, is it enough? Are they gonna end up a statistic on an episode of some daytime talk show, talking about how todays youth is so much more this and that and blah blah than kids were at that age so many years ago? All I can do, all any of us can do, is just do our best. Try our hardest to raise our children to be good people, and to treat others with respect. I know it sounds corny to some, but yes sir/no sir yes ma'am/no ma'am is a heckuva start.

The concept of rainbow parties first gained widespread attention back in 2003 when a guest on the Oprah show claimed that all kinds of teenagers were going to these things. But the thing is, tales about rainbow parties always seem to be third-hand: coming from adults who are trying to raise alarms about teenage sexuality. The same NY Times article notes that "Many say rainbow parties are just a new urban legend -- suburban, actually -- not much more trustworthy than the old stories about alligators in the sewer."
I'd have to agree that the rainbow party concept is probably more urban legend than reality. It reminds me of the Jelly Bracelet tale (that teenagers supposedly wear color-coded jelly bracelets to indicate to other kids what kind of sexual acts they're willing to perform). But as always with such things, it may have started out fake, but give it enough time and someone, somewhere, is probably going to be inspired to make it real.
Kids of such a young age seem to pounce on ideas like "rainbow parties" and "jelly braclets" in order to fit into some click.
I have a 14 year old daughter that tells me that her class mates do talk about this. But none of the stories seem to match up once you ask the other kids that were "supposedly" there.
so who knows........
As a parent I feel it is my responcibility to monitor my children in where they go and do NOT go. So I ask questions, I call other parents. and YES I have parental controls on my computer.

It's true.
They also do chicken parties, which is a row of guys standing there with erections, and a row of girls on their knees giving them oral sex. They're called chicken parties because of the way the girls heads are all bobbing up and down.
It's pretty sad.
