you know one could ask you the same thing....you sound exactly like all the other christian haters out there....you know the ones who ask the same kind of questions like this one because they don't seem to have the ability to come up with any new material on their own...so they copy what the last one has said and then just keep the stupid cycle of dumb questions coming.....if you don't believe me just take a look at all the questions asked on any given day and you will see numerous hate questions against Christians and they are all basically asking the same thing just wording it differently........and oh yes JR TOLIEN was a good christian and great story teller....but the Word of God is true and right and one day you will see that........but I just pray that you would break free from the mold of all the other haters on here and ask an original question for once.....go ahead I'm sure you can think of some on your own......

Nice question and a good thought. I being a "NO" and not a preacher or teacher do appreciate it. In fact I do also wonder the same thing.

Oh, this is just my view for what it is worth OK. I have studied the bible intently for the past 23 years. It is my life but I do not go around quoting scriptures to others. I see the Bible like the book of ABC's or the dictionary in one view. It is a book to know how to use and when to use it. It is a book of vast limitless information for those who will accept it, but it is not designed to be used as a book to quote except to those who say they know it so well.

My friend I do try my best to allow My God to Make me like Jesus for I can not do that. The Jesus I read about only used scripture to those who were suppose to know the scriptures. He did not go to a non believer and quote scripture. He knew the principles so well he could put them in parables. I think it would be nice if all the today's teachers and preachers would learn to do the same.

As my final view I do find the lack of the ability to think and reason present in the so called Christian world system. Thus most are limited to learning from other humankind and quoting directly as they have learned. That is the best they can do - how sad. I can not change it so I just observe it my friend and wonder.

Do you not know it is considered a mark of superiority when one does read or quote the scripture in the so called Christian world. Yes and that Bible under the arm is a seal of being so GOOD. Lol LOL
For me it is funny but truly very sad.

agnostic_logic,
It's simple really. I like JRR too. I've read The Silmarillion(x2), The Hobbit(xwho knows), The Fellowship of the Ring(x who knows), The Two Towers(x more than Fellowship), The Return of the King (x even more than that) when I was a teenager. And not once did JRR give me a promise that would last all eternity. He knew that it wasn't his place to do so either.

God did. He promised me so much.

But don't be a **** and not realize that the Bible is what we look at ( the Protestants anyway) to keep in touch of how God thinks and how He acts. We reference the Bible to provide a text to those who don't know why we say what we say.

Now know that the Muslims don't think tht you should be commenting on anything that you haven't read. That's just a heads up. ( Something that they said tonight).

We're scared of being wrong, and we believe the Bible's perfect. So if we only stick to what the Bible says, then we won't have to face our fear of being wrong. We don't have to do the whole, "Yeah, I admit it, you were right," thing to other people when they prove us wrong. We can be all-knowing, like God. A big self-confidence boost, eh?
I grew up in a "Bible-thumping" church, so I know what you're talking about. I got tired of it and decided I'd like to use my own brain and enjoy the world. But that's the mindset that I think is behind that pattern. To some evangelicals, being wrong is this horrible thing, like you've killed someone. It's hard to describe if you haven't been in the middle of it. But really, many conservatives are scared to death. I was taught that to sin even a little would make God angry and result in horrible punishment from Him, making my life miserable. So many Christians believe that the only road to happiness is to never, ever sin. That will keep you safe from the bad stuff that we all inevitably experience in life. They believe that living according to the Bible will prevent them from sinning, so they try to think like the Bible. They believe that's the road to perfection without pain. It looks crazy, but it's easy to get drawn into. Who would say no to a life without problems?

I do.

I only read the Bible to get closer and have a better understanding of Jesus and God.

I don't run around throwing quotes at people like some idiots do.

I like Tolkien too, but as good as he is, he's still not God. I believe in going straight to the top for answers. :)

You post a question.
I post an answer.
I back it up with my source.
That's how this thing works.
If you can't accept that then take it elsewhere.
