Get a CZ52, chambered in 7.62x25 Tokarev. I've had mine for a while it's a great shooter, surplus ammo is cheap for it.The CZ52 is around 170 bucks, they're all used, Czech surplus pistols. Also look into the Hi-Point series of pistols, the C9 can be had for 8under 180 bucks.(New) They have inexpensive pistols in 9mm, 40sw, 45acp, and 380 auto.I have 2 of their carbines with over 5000 rounds shot thru them between the 2.

There is a new company producing very affordable firearms called Hi-Point.
They make a 9mm semi-automatic for $99. It comes with an unlimited lifetime warranty. Even if you are not the original owner, they will repair and refinish the firearm for free if you have ANY difficulties at all. They also produce a 9mm and a .40 carbine for $150 that is pretty accurate and very fun to shoot.
I have always had the more expensive brands (Sig, Glock, Desert Eagle) but have found these models to be just as reliable.
If you are looking for an inexpensive pistol, HiPoint is the way to go...

Cheap but reliable means a revolver. I use relible semi-automatics, but revolvers are cheaper. My Heckler & Koch "P9S" .45ACP cost $1428. Someone mentioned Ruger. That's a good idea. Look over Ruger revolvers. If you want it for self-defense,a .357 Magnum is best. For just plinking or small game, a .22 rimfire uses cheap ammunition. My sister has a really cheap .38 Saturday night special by ROHM. Don't buy such guns for Magnum loads. They may hold together with lower powered loads, but magnums can wear out good guns.

Glock, it is not cheap but affordable. It is reliable as I have a model 30 with over 2000 rounds through it and not one failure. Expect it to be priced around 400 to 500 dollars. Another bonus it it is accurate, and very easy to maintain. You can get it in almost any popular auto pistol caliber.

You neglected to say what you wanted it for, or if you preferred revolver or automatic.
Bersa makes a good .380 auto that is very affordable and (some say) better than the higher dollar Walthers & Beretta.
The Walthers P-22 in plain blue finish is right around $300.00 as is the Beretta Tomcat .32 auto.
Taurus makes good revolvers and autos at affordable prices. Take your pick.

Revolvers in the .38 or .38 special cal. S&W, Ruger, Colt.all make great weapons & if you buy a used pistol in this cal., the price will be around $150-$250. Revolvers are the most durable, trouble free firearms you can buy, next to single shot shotguns or rifles.

At stunning you will get a retired police glock like one has reported. you may also bypass on backpage and purchase used. aspect is with that small a funds your fairly proscribing your self. the superb you may do is a used pump shotgun or affordable carbine like a hi-factor carbine (stay away from the handguns) or a kel-tec.
