My husband was talking to some co-workers about our new diet consisting of mostly fruits and veggies. Another co-worker (who just so happens to be a super buff health nut) walked by and said "Just stay away from bananas!" What's wrong with bananas?

Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose - combined with fiber. Research has proved that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout.Bananas contain tryptophan, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier. It contains vitamin B6 and Vitamin Bs,high in iron, high in potassium and magnesium yet low in salt.Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body.
When you compare it to an apple, it has three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around. If you are on diet however beware! It has four times the protein and twice the carbohydrate contained in an apple.

Bananas have alot of carbs in them and that is why they say to have 1 small banana or half of one if you're on a diet. It would be under the same catagory as breads. Too much carbs, of course, is not good.

I think it's because they raise the blood sugar too quickly and that is what causes insulin to drop, thus causing diabetes. There are a lot of foods that cause big spikes in blood sugar that people should stay away from especially if they have a history of diabetes in their family. Oprah had a good point, stay away from any foods that are white, which is very true.
