I have an older computer that was given to us but it runs really slow. I would like to take everything off then reinstall Windows so my kids can have it just to play games. How can I do this?

Don't have to take everything off to speed up the computer, just clear everything from Startup except Windows. The other things will be there if and when you ever want to use them - it's just that loading them will take a bit longer.

There may be other things you can do to increase speed:

1.From IE, click Tools, Internet Options
delete cookies
delete files (offline files)
clear history (set days to save to 0 if you want)
click o.k., and Restart
2.click Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools – run Disk Cleanup

Temporarily close Quick Launch:
Right-click on the Taskbar, click Toolbars, deselect Quick Launch

click Start
Programs
Accessories
System Tools

run a Disk Cleanup, Scandisk, and a Defrag

Right-click on the Taskbar and select Quick Launch

You will be surprised how much this maintenance speeds up your PC.

All these things should be done regularly. The more frequently they are run, the less time they take.

Kids' games, because they are full of graphics, and because graphics create very large files, will run better if you have sufficient memory. If the computer is old, you could try to install an additional chip, but there comes a point where a computer costs more to upgrade than to replace. I know - I have two in the closet. If you are interested in replacing, you could try Dell or HP and look for refurbished. We got a really good deal on a refurbished system.

Most computers come with a restore cd that will delete all partions and restore your computer to the original factory settings. You order a restore cd from the computer maker if you do not have one. That is the simplest method. Your second option is to deleted your partion manually and use a copy of the operating system cd to perform a new install.
