Learning languages are relatively hard, but if you have the determination, then you can do it quickly. I have been learning for a few years now, and once you get over the basics grammatical structures, it is easy from then on.
The only downside to mandarin is that the words in written form are characters, but not letters.
However, if you do choose to learn, it will pay off, as a large portion of the world's population knows how to speak mandarin.

I remember reading a website written by someone who spent 10 years trying diligently to learn Mandarin and still felt he knew almost nothing. At least speaking is easier than writing.
